While many have a love-hate relationship with the former model now turned talk show host and media mogul, none can deny the extreme success Ms. Banks has had in her career. After experiencing an awkward period during her teens, Tyra high-tailed it to Paris to begin her journey as a high-fashion model. Just when the world of fashion was about to really get her down, Tyra called on her rock—her mom—who then took over to manage her career. After her success overseas, Tyra came back state-side and started her huge career as a commercial model.

Tyra went on to become the first Black woman to grace the covers of Sports Illustrated, GQ, and the Victoria’s Secret catalog.
