Clean Out Your Closet!
If you’re looking to make 2009 your most stylish year to date, you MUST clean out your closet! Sorting out your clothes allows you to really see what you have in there, cuts down your time getting dressed, and helps you avoid buying unneccessary items.
Here’s how you do it:
1. Get rid of anything that you haven’t worn in the past year: items that no longer fit, items that are damaged beyond repair, items that will never have another turn in the fashion cycle, etc. You can donate many of these items to charity, but be sure the items are properly cleaned. Another alternative to chucking superfluous closet items is to resell them on sites like eBay or Craig’s List.
2. Coordinate your clothing by item and then by color: you want to put all your pants together, all your blouses together, etc. and then sort these items by color (i.e. all your black pants go together and all your white blouses go together, etc.). This helps to cut dressing time down because it’s easier to grab items together for an outfit.
3. Invest in proper garment hangers: splurge on wooden and skirt/slack hangers. They’ll help to keep your garments in their original shape. Items like sweaters and jeans should be folded neatly like you would see them on display in a clothing store. Also look into clear stackable boxes to store your shoes and accessories as well as other closet essentials as shown below.
