Style and Beauty at Any Age

Style and beauty seem to get better with age and what better proof than the looks recently spotted on actresses Vanessa Williams and Vivica A. Fox?

Style Tips:
1. No need to raid your daughter’s closet. Not when you have an arsenal of fab frocks that your daughter will be clawing at your wardrobe to get her hands on. Fill your closet with figure flattering dresses, bold coats, and trend-worthy accessories.
2. Don’t be afraid to mix a bright with a print like Williams is doing above. In this case the black & white houndstooth print of her skirt suit is acting like a neutral while the yellow coat and purple pumps act as accents. You can come up with your own stylish color combos by using a color wheel:

colorwheel1-1

Colors opposite each other (like violet and yellow), colors next to each other (like green and yellow-green) and colors that form right angles (like yellow and red-orange) are all colors that go together.
3. Fashion may be cyclical, but if you’re old enough to have worn a trend when it was first popular, pass it up the second time around.

Beauty Tips:
1. The skin of a woman of a certain age can have the tendency to get dry, so be sure to apply a good moisturizer (like Clinique Youth Surge SPF 15– also comes in formulas for every skin type, Perricone MD Protective Hydrator, or Perricone Concentrated Restorative Treatment) both day and night. Look into retinols (Vitamin A), anti-oxidants (grape seed oil, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, etc.) that go together with your skin like peanut butter and jelly.
2. Since makeup won’t cover wrinkles, use it instead to play up your better features. Got killer eyes? Play them up with eyeshadow and liner. Got a pretty pout? Grab a moisturizing lipstick. A trick for keeping foundation from settling into lines? After applying liquid foundation, take a damp makeup sponge and gently press–don’t wipe–it all over your face, paying particular attention to the areas where you have wrinkles. This will remove the foundation that has settled into lines, but won’t take it off entirely, so you still have coverage but with soft finish–a tip I picked up from makeup artist Sandy Linter in the April 2009 issue of Allure magazine.
3. MAC Fix+ Spray is a makeup staple that needs to be in the makeup bag of all women. Packed with vitamins and minerals, infused with a calm-the-skin blend of green tea, chamomile, cucumber, topped off with the fresh, natural, energizing scent of Sugi this stuff will help avoid the dread “cake face”.
