Prom Guide 2010: Prom Makeup Ideas

Looking for cute and easy to do prom makeup? Check out these three looks inspired by three very hot celebs. They’re all workable on virtually all skin tones.

Tolula Adeyimi:

1. I cannot stress enough how much beautiful makeup starts with beautiful skin, but with a look like this where the main focus is the skin, I need to stress it double-time. Be sure to cleanse, tone, and moisturize your skin according to your skin type.

This look can be hard to pull off successfully if you have large pores, pesky acne, or *gasp* facial hair. Groomed brows are also a must.

2. To smooth out pores and fine lines, begin with a foundation primer like Smashbox Photofinish Foundation Primer. Then apply a foundation stick that provides full coverage yet allows your skin to look like your skin but better. I should buy stock in Becca Cosmetics with as much as I recommend their products, but I love their Foundation Stick long time for its creamy texture, concealing properties, and it comes in an array of shades perfect for women of any color. Set with a loose powder–guess what my favorite loose powder is? Yep—Becca! Their Fine Loose Finishing Powder does its job of setting your makeup but doesn’t give you “cakey face”.

Since we’re not doing eyeshadow with this look, don’t forget to apply the Foundation Stick and Fine Loose Finishing Powder all over your lids, too.

3. To steal Tolula’s everlasting glow, generously dab a pink shimmery luminizer (like Benefit Moon Beam—works on virtually all skin tones) on your cheekbones (don’t worry if you apply too much, you can blot it down with some loose powder), a touch on the bridge of your nose, a quick dab at your temples, and a light dot on the tip of your chin.

4. Dust a shimmery bright pink blush (like MAC Dollymix Sheertone Shimmer Blush) on your cheeks. Apply some more luminizer on the tops of your cheekbones if needed.

5. Finish with a creamy peachy-pink lip gloss like MAC Lipglass in Florabundance, two coats of mascara (try Maybelline Lash Stilleto), and a few spritzes of MAC Fix+ Spray.

Rihanna:

1. After applying foundation according to your skin type and finish preferences and your eye makeup done in three tones (one to match your skin tone to go on your lid, one a shade or two lighter than your skin tone for your brow bone, and one a shade or two darker than your skin tone for the outer V), grab a liquid liner like mark On the Edge Hook Up Liquid Liner and carefully trace your eyes (getting as close to the space where your eye lashes and lid meet) and extend it on about a 15 degree angle from the outer corners of your eyes. Go over your line again until you achieve your desired thickness. Usually your first coat is sufficient.

2. Grab some outer corner lashes like MAC Lashes in #20. Outer lashes are super easy to apply and can look very natural if you trim them to fit your eyes. To apply, dab a bit of lash glue like Ardell Duo Eyelash Adhesive in Dark to the band of the lashes. Let the glue get tacky and then apply it as close to the area where your lashes and lid meet. Use a pair of tweezers to apply if your hands get in the way. Make sure the lashes are secure by gently pressing them together with your natural lashes using a lash curler.

3. Apply a sheer pink gloss and blush. Try NARS Lip Gloss in Pillow Talk and NARS Blush in Mata Hari (works on all skin tones). Finish your face with a spritz of MAC Fix+ Spray to give your face a touch of radiance and avoid the dreaded foundation cake face look.

All products mentioned below are by MAC.

1. As always, beautiful makeup starts with beautiful skin. Cleanse, tone, and moisturize your skin according to your skin type.

2. Since we’re using dark eyeshadow colors with a potential for shadow fallout, we’re going to do eyes first before foundation. So to prep your eyes for eyeshadow and to make sure it lasts all day, apply Paint all over the lid up to the brow bone in a shade closest to your skin tone using your index finger. Apply Soft Brown Eyeshadow on the brow bone using 224 Brush. Lighter skin try Eyeshadows in Orb, Vanilla, or Malt (the idea for all tones is to use a shade one to two shades lighter than your skin tone).

Apply Eyeshadow in Nehru all over the bottom lid and in the crease with 217 Brush. Be sure to blend carefully especially where Nehru meets the brow bone shade (careful not to muddy the colors by overblending). Using Nehru again, take 275 Brush and wing it outside the corner of the eyes. You can use the edge of a business card to help guide you.

Take 219 Brush and line the inner corners of the eyes as well as underneath the waterline with Freshwater eyeshadow. Use 219 Brush and with Nehru line the outer corners of the eye as well as the 3/4 of the bottom of the waterline.

Finish with two to three coats of Studio Fix Lash Mascara.

3. For picture perfect skin, apply Prep & Prime Face foundation primer followed by Studio Tech Foundation using 190 Brush. Prep & Prime works to smooth over the skin’s texture and minimize the appearance of pores while Studio Tech provides smooth medium to full cover making it perfect for taking pictures (often SPF displays an ashen appearance once it gets hit by the camera’s flash), but if you plan on wearing it outdoors for a prolonged period of time, be sure that your moisturizer has you covered for sun exposure. Set with Select Sheer Loose Powder using 187 Brush and for touch-ups throughout the day that won’t interfere with your makeup, carry Blot Powder Pressed in your purse.

4. For the cheeks, take 168 Brush and apply Raizin blush to the apples of the cheeks and extend towards the temples. Lightly dust Select Sheer Loose Powder over Raizin to set.

5. Smooth over dry, flaky lips with Prep & Prime Lip. Apply Lipstick in Morange using 242 Brush.

6. Apply another light dusting of Select Sheer Loose Powder and add a few spritzes of Fix+ Spray.
