Quick Professional Work Wardrobe Tips for All Sizes
I work a day job in Finance that requires a wardrobe that totally differs from the way I dress on my down time. I also don’t like to spend a ton of money on work clothes that I just wear for work. In fact, I haven’t bought new work clothes since I got my day job back in 2007…lol.
What’s my secret? I stocked up on a wicked Zara sale where suit jackets were $20 each. I bought 5 or 6 jackets and have been rotating those bad boys like crazy. I had some other jackets from previous jobs in my existing wardrobe from Express (their suits are life-savers because they’re stylish and last FOREVER). Then I bought/had in my existing wardrobe maybe 5 or 6 different pairs of black pants and 5 or 6 stylish yet professional skirts. I never wear a suit “together” instead opting for prints and colors that go with EVERYTHING and then I mix and match.
As for blouses, my prolific desire to NOT iron anything has banished all button down blouses from my wardrobe. If it needs ironing or my boobs call for it to be altered in some way, it has no place in my closet. So instead I opt for stretchy tees from Old Navy or H&M (perfect places to get basic tees) in black and white with an ocassional yellow or pink.
And that’s it. If a hem falls or a button comes to the dry cleaners it goes. But to buy anything to wear to work? Nope…lol. When I was in my early 20s and working on NYC’s Fashion Ave I would spend my lunch break buying cute work ensembles. I was looking sharp, but I was also broke as I don’t know what…lol. Now the need for a different outfit everyday has turned into just rotating what I already own. Who cares about impressing people I don’t know (and probably don’t even like…lol). I still look very put together but I get to keep more money in my pocket.
And since I love to SNOOZE in the morning and have to constantly be in a rush for some reason, I need my work wardrobe to be quick. By having such a confined wardrobe and having every single piece go with everything else in my closet, it takes me no time to get dressed. Perfect!
