Peter Thomas Roth Blemish Buster Kit Review
I feel like the second someone tells me I have nice skin, pimples start to line up one by one for their 15 minutes of fame on my face. *sigh*
I find that a lot of acne products won’t work on me more than twice so I’m constantly having to find something new to try. So while browsing at Sephora I came across the Peter Thomas Roth Blemish Buster Kit. It was almost perfect because:
1. I like Peter Thomas Roth products and if I ever get to meet the man, I will kiss both sides of his face
2. I love kits because you get to try more than one product without spending major money
3. The kit was on sale for 50% off at a Sephora inside JCPenney so I only paid $17.50 for it! *does the Tootsie Roll*
This set contains:
- 2 oz Beta Hydroxy Acid 2% Wash
- 1 oz Blemish Buffing Beads
- 0.5 oz AHA/BHA Acne Clearing Gel
- 0.25 oz Acne Spot and Area Treatment
- 0.25 oz. Max Anti-Shine Mattifying Gel
Except I can’t remember if the Blemish Buffing Beads were missing from my kit or if I accidentally threw it in the garbage like I’m known to do. *smh*
Anyway, the kit got rid of a cluster of acne I had on both my temple and on my cheeks within four days. I’ve actually learned to not expect my pimples to go away overnight unless it’s just one lonely bump. I also loved that nothing in this kit dried my skin out. Not even the AHA/BHA Acne Cleanser and acne cleansers are notorious for drying out my skin. The only thing I have to say is the Acne Spot and Area Treatment smells TERRIBLE, but it’s the sulfur in it which helps to stimulate healing. (Funny story about sulfur—back in 1994 I went on a school trip to Australia and New Zealand. When we got to New Zealand we stayed in Auckland and because of the geysers, the area where we stayed smelled just like this Acne Spot and Area Treatment. Not sure if it still smells like that now, but I’d stick my head outside all the time to soak up some of that sulfur. Just kidding. coughnoimnotsneeze)
I also liked the Max Anti-Shine Mattifying Gel which was a surprise to see in the kit. I can get kinda oily so this helped to keep me matte at least four hours longer. Nice.
Bottomline: If you’re like me and don’t have chronic acne but have occasional pimples that drive you nuts and most acne treatments dry out your skin, give this kit a try. Even at the $35 full price I think it’s worth it.
Check out how much each individual product costs:
Have you ever tried this kit? What were your results?

I actually bought this kit a few years back when I was having hormonal acne. It worked like a dream! After I used up the products in the introductory kit I purchased the Acne Clearing Gel, it worked wonderfully. It lasted a very long time too, it was well worth the $45.
Yay! Glad it worked for you, too. :)
I would love to know your routine ! i just bought this today, my acne drives me nuts ! please help me out, it doesnt say steps or anything.. im so confused on how i should do this. thanks
Hey Miranda!
My routine changes with the seasons and with how my skin is behaving. Thankfully I’m not on the acne cycle right now, so I’m not currently using this kit. I use Bare Escentuals Deep Cleansing Foam, my Clarisonic 2-3 times a week, Perricone MD Face Finishing Moisturizer on milder days or Super by Perricone MD Hyper Hydrator on colder days, PTR Mineral Sunscreen and at night I use Meaningful Beauty Creme de Serum and usually Clinique Super Rescue Antioxidant Night Cream or Reviva Labs Vitamin C Ester Alpha Lipoic DMAE Night Cream.
I wrote this post a long time ago, and now I’m looking at the Sephora site and it looks like this same kit is a little bit different than the one I mentioned in this post. The one I had came with a sulfur treatment. With this one: http://www.shopstyle.com/action/apiVisitRetailer?id=299435008&pid=uid6849-1077543-60 use the BHA Wash day and night, the Buffing Beads can be used 1-2 times a week to exfoliate, use the Anti-Shine Gel before you put on your makeup and after your moisturizer, use the Clearing Gel at Night (it contains AHAs and glycolic acid which can make the skin more sun sensitive) and can be used all over the skin while the Spot Treatment Gel can be used during the day for spot treatment (meaning you don’t want to put it all over the face just on the spots). Hope this helps!!!
