What I Bought This Weekend

Happy Monday, folks!

This weekend was pretty calm for me. Sadly no Halloween festivities—which sucks because I had plans to dress up as Jerome from Martin…lol. I also took it relatively easy on the shopping as *DRUM ROLL PLEASE* I’ve just given up the comfort of my day job in finance and have exchanged it for the seemingly scary yet very rewarding world of freelancing. I’m about to be 30 next year (not that makes me old or anything *slaps on extra anti-aging creme*) but I decided I know how to do so many cool things like makeup, fashion styling, and writing, that it would be a sin to not try something new. My mom even told me I should write a book (was totally expecting her to have me put into a padded room after I told her my plans). Well, the sky is the limit.

And I’ve also been doing this for ages in case anyone was interested.

Anyway, on to what made the “pull out my debit card” cut…

I decided when I placed my last Sephora order that I LOVED the new YSL Rouge Pur Couture lipsticks because they were so creamy, shiny, and high fashion if that makes sense…lol. But I also decided I didn’t like the colors offered mainly because I had similar ones already in my stash. That’s when I realized there’s a few that aren’t sold at Sephora. Yessss! I learned this at the YSL counter in Bloomingdale’s when I tried on shade #8 Belle de Rose whose online swatch looks pretty dark but shows up as a mid-tone berry red on me. I applied it with a touch of the new YSL Golden Gloss in #37 which is a warm red with golden shimmer. It also doesn’t appear to be online so perhaps it’s a Bloomingdale’s exclusive. I was in love.

That is until the lady at the counter told me they didn’t have YSL Rouge Pur Couture #8 in stock. She had to order it for me. *sigh* At least the shipping was free. Operation stalk the delivery people has commenced.

Then earlier in the week, I ordered a pair of Sam Edelman Vancouver boots. They fall in the hiking boot/heel hybrid trend this season. Although they’re 5.5 inch heels (making me 6′ 2.5″ tall when I’m wearing them), they have a 1.5 inch platform that makes them super easy to walk in. I also got a cute sleeveless wrap-around sweater from Old Navy that’s perfect for layering as well as this cute leopard print sweater from JC Penney (although it was $17.99 when I bought it plus I googled for extra coupons). The JCP sweater is so much more cooler in person than on the JCP website…lol.

Because I’m a firm believer in walking away from something I see and want to really decide if I *want* I also ordered Tom Ford Black Orchid Eau de Parfum yesterday. I tested it at Sephora the other day and accidentally sprayed some on my cell phone cover. Can I tell you how I’ve been sniffing my phone everyday since? And because I want to see if a $45 lipstick is at all necessary, I also ordered Tom Ford Private Blend Lip Color in Cherry Lush. We shall see…

Well, that was my weekend. How was yours? What did you do/buy?

  5. Woo hoo, congrats on taking the leap. I was let go from my job almost 2 years ago and I thought I was destined for a life of ramen noodles, but I've been steadily freelancing since them. I'm happier and healthier and have had the time to do the things I want to do. I know this will be an awesome new chapter in your life :)

  6. Congrats!! I can just imagine the freedom that you will have. WoW!!! I want to be able to do that someday!

Yay Danielle! Amazing things start to happen when you step out on faith and pursue the things you were ‘made’ to do. You can do it!! The universe awards courage, I believe it.
As for what I bought this weekend, I was surprisingly chill…switched out a leopard belt for a leopard print tank from Urban Outfitters (am having a leopard moment). Bought two soft tanks from a brand called Truth (it’s hot here in GA). And aside from a few Halloween what nots, that was it! Excited to go makeup shopping w/ you!

  8. Congrats Danielle! What a huge step! I wish you nothing but the best! Look forward to seeing some more of your work.
