How to Make Celebrity Fashion Your Own

Celebs like Victoria Beckham, Rihanna, and Tracee Ellis Ross often top the list of favorite celebrity fashionistas. Folks just about whip out their credit cards faster than Willow Smith could her hair to get the latest items celebrity fashion icons were spotted wearing.

But we all don’t have celeb’s bodies and income so what they wear doesn’t always translate in “everyday” world. Plus when was it ever appropriate to wear a studded leotard to the office water cooler?

Style is about making things your own and it’s possible to take elements of your fave celeb’s style and incorporate it into your wardrobe without being a full out carbon copy.

How?

Rihanna sure is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to wardrobe. She and her stylist Mariel Haenn make an excellent team. Instead of literally copying Rihanna’s looks if you’re a fan of her style, take ideas from the Bajan crooner’s style book. From the looks above a party dress with interesting detailing (either in the fabric or in the design), a well structured jacket, faux fur, punches of color, cool accessories, and bright lipstick are all elements to add into your own wardrobe to evoke Rihanna’s style without being her clone.

Some of my picks:

They didn’t call Victoria Beckham Posh Spice for nothing. The designer and former Spice Girls bandmate loves her labels. There are certain elements of her style that you can add into your wardrobe to make it your own. These elements are structure, 5 inch or taller platform pumps, skinny jeans and pants with embellishments, and statement bags. Add in a sculptured cheek.

Just the other day I was reading The ELLEments of Personal Style, a fashion book my mom got me for Christmas. Tracee Ellis Roos, actress and daughter of Grand Dame Diva Diana Ross, was featured in the book for her great personal style. Tracee just might be one of the luckiest daughters ever to have her mother’s vast and extremely fabulous wardrobe to sort through. In fact “Mahogany” (Diana’s movie from the 70s where she plays an aspiring designer who becomes a model, moves to Italy and then takes the fashion industry by storm) came on the other night and I had to stop myself from drooling over the wardrobe.

What sticks out about Tracee’s style is she pairs things together that you might not immediately think of first. For instance she’ll pair a dressy tuxedo jacket with something casual like a graphic tee and a pair of baggy cargo pants then pull it all together with a pair of heels. 40s style dresses also seem to live in her wardrobe and of course her ultimate accessory is her head full of curls.
