The MAC Store in Soho, NYC was redecorated for the Wonder Woman Collection

The MAC Wonder Woman collection launches in MAC stores and counters on February 10th and should be online around February 8th. Today the MAC store in Soho had a special event and then opened to the public as the first MAC store in the world to sell the collection. I schlept to Manhattan in slushy snow to see if I could get the products I coveted (I only wanted the blush duos) and to see what everything else looked like.

So I first heard the store would reopen at 2 so I got there around 2 expecting the line to be wrapped around the corner. It wasn’t. There were only three other MAC fans in front of me and no one behind me for at least 30 mins. But since the crew had to put the store back together from the press event they had earlier, we waited outside like eager beavers. But then “maybe 20 mins” turned into “about 2 hours” so we went off to shop and came back.

When I came back I was expecting pandemonium. It was super calm…lol.

The whole store was decorated with Wonder Woman paraphernalia. There were bookshelves that had comics that showed the heroine’s different looks over the past seven decades. Then I zeroed in on the makeup.

I got as far as these three pics before someone at MAC politely asked me to 86 the camera…lol. He was so nice about it though. So I swatched the rest like crazy. Only the MSFs didn’t show up enough on my skin for me to capture them with my camera. I don’t have those advanced skills yet. I also didn’t swatch the pigments as I ran out of arm space and I am WAY too clumsy to be handling pigments in confined spaces. Then after I made my purchases (the two blushes), I stepped outside to try and photograph the swatches on my hands the best I could. The water droplets you see on my hands are from the fire escape above me…lol.

My thoughts?

This collection as a whole is pretty blah if you already own a lot of brighter lip colors and you’re not a huge Wonder Woman fan. Much of the collection is dupable so there isn’t a lot you need. I’d say definitely check out the blush duos—those are super pretty and look great on virtually all skintones.

You can skip the MSFs if you own any of them. I saw nothing special about them, but that could be because they didn’t show up very well on my NW47 skin. If you don’t own any MSFs at all, I’d say get one (Golden Lariat if you have warm undertones or Pink Power if you have cool undertones) if you must but know that MAC will at some point this year likely bring out more in another collection. These Wonder Woman MSFs are supersized so they’re bigger than usual.

Please do yourself a favor and skip the eyeshadow quads. They have very so-so color payoff and you can find similar colors with much better pigmentation in their permanent line.

The lipglasses are okay. I’d recommend Athena’s Kiss and Wonder Woman ONLY if you don’t have similar colors. These are also supersized so they’re about twice the regular size of MAC lipglass so they’re also a little more.

If you must go for a lipstick (Russian Red is pretty but it’s permanent), go for Spitfire if you don’t already have a deep bright pink/magenta lipstick. The others you can skip and still sleep well at night.

Edit: Here’s some comparison swatches of Amazon Princess Blush vs MAC Band of Roses Mineralize Blush Duo. I had no clue they were so similar until The Style and Beauty Doctor reader Temi left a comment (the dark pink part of Band of Roses has slightly more burgundy to it, but if you have this blush you don’t necessarily need Amazon Princess).
