5 Lip Balms to Try for Winter

You wouldn’t be able to tell by the 65 degree temps that have shown up several times this season, but winter is coming! *throws rotten tomatoes at winter*

The time of year when everything pretty much gets cold, flaky, and dry due to cold temps and dry heat is upon us. *sigh* My lips especially take a beating so lip balm is a must for me. I received a series of lip balms for review consideration and picked out five worth trying. Check it out…

1. Hard Candy Lovestruck Tinted Lip Balm ($3). This adds a little hint of pink to the lips so it’s great alone or you can use it as a base for your favorite lip color. I find myself using this a lot more now when I’m wearing a touch of color on the eyes.

2. Supergoop! MintFusion SPF 30 UVA/UVB ($8.50). This makes for a great balm that keeps lips protected from the sun and also allows enough slip to be used as a base if you love matte lipsticks but find some of them to be a bit too drying (I’m talking to YOU, MAC Ruby Woo).

3. eos Lip Balm ($3.29). These are 95% organic, 100% natural, and paraben and petrolatum free. I have a few of these stashed in different places around the house (one in my purse, one in the bathroom to apply at night before bed, and one in a candy dish on the living room table for when I’m making a mad dash out of the house without makeup on). I love how cute the packaging is and these make the lips feel moist and supple without shine. Also perfect as a base before lip color.

4. Coola Liplux SPF 30 Lip Treatment ($12). The peppermint and vanilla scent had me excessively applying this balm which contains food-grade certified organic ingredients. I like that it gives just a touch of shine for those who want conditioned lips but a tiny bit of glamour and I love that it contains SPF (don’t forget to reapply though so you’re covered all day).

5. Kimara Ahnert Mint Lip Gloss Wand ($24). OK, this isn’t a balm, but I had to add it in here because it contains vitamins C&E and aloe vera for smoothing and healing. Plus it feels minty and tingly on the lips and if you accidentally ingest some (don’t act like it doesn’t happen to you…lol), you get a taste of spearmint. It gives a slight hint of pink with shine and is good to use when your lips need a break from bold lipstick and lip pencils.

Honorary mention: Jack Black Lip Balm which I reviewed here back in February, and you can’t go wrong with good ole Chapstick. For severe cases where your lips are dry and chapped beyond belief, try multipurpose (it’s good for burns and scrapes, too) Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant.
