Ask Danielle: Your Top 10 Online Shopping Sites
As I mentioned in yesterday’s Ask Danielle post, reader and blogging buddy Sherry of Sherry Blossom Beauty sent over some blog questions (I LOVE when you guys do this by the way—it lets me know exactly what you guys want to see here). So she asks, “What are the top 10 online shopping sites with awesome shipping, return and refund policies?”
While I am a heavy online shopper, I do stay within my group of favorites so I haven’t shopped with everyone (obviously because I’d be making appearances at your local shopping mall’s trash bin otherwise). I also seem to get most of my online shopping purchases fairly quickly living in NYC so shipping times of course will vary across the globe.
So here they are (in no particular order)…(See also How to Buy Makeup Online)
1. ASOS.com: Boy has ASOS.com come a LONG way. I shopped with them since they were only a UK site that delivered to the U.S. and shipping took almost 15 days but it was only about $9 and the clothes were really cute and stylish. Then they started a U.S. site and promised to cut down shipping time, but instead something else happened and people who ordered items never got them. I was one of them—and ASOS stopped responding to my emails when I asked for a refund prompting me to ask if other people had a similar situation. Turns out tons of people did and they took to Twitter and Facebook to voice their anger.
But then something magical happened and ASOS.com is now on the case. Not only is regular shipping free at ANY price, but you get your items on average within a week (I ordered something on 10/28 a Friday and got it on 11/2 a Wednesday), and returns are also free.
2. Piperlime.com: Shipping and returns are free and I love how carefully edited all the clothes, shoes, and accessories are. With picks from Rachel Zoe, Rachel Bilson, Olivia Palermo, and Byrdie Bell you have to at least browse the site to drool over the merchandise.
3. NeimanMarcus.com: More often than not Neiman Marcus has free shipping at any price (just look at the top of the site’s page for a code). I love their beauty section and you gotta love when they have a sale. They do charge $6.95 for returns which isn’t bad if there isn’t a Neiman Marcus store near you (the closest one here is in White Plains or Short Hills, NJ).
4. eBay.com: Sure this can be hit or miss, but when I look back on my most prized possessions (my ultimate favorite chocolate brown leather blazer that I wear so often the lining comes out…lol), I realize I got them on eBay. There’s not often free shipping (in fact some sellers will try to gouge you on shipping costs) but if you’re looking for something very specific that you know you won’t find in stores most likely eBay will have it. Right now I’m searching for this BCBGMAXAZRIA sleeveless coat that I didn’t buy two years ago when it came out (I had it in my hand at the store AND it was on sale). I actually did find it about two weeks ago but the seller had it overpriced.
5. Sephora.com: I couldn’t be a beauty girl without loving Sephora.com! A $50 purchase gets you free shipping and if you check the site for Weekly Specials, you can score either free deluxe samples with a code or get some great beauty items at a great price. Plus every order gets 3 free samples and if you’re a Beauty Insider or VIB, you can get even more. Right now there’s NARS Eyeshadow Duos for $10 (though they seem to be currently out of stock). Returns to a Sephora store or via mail using their label are free.
6. Nordstrom.com: We know Nordstrom is a leader in customer service, so I’m so happy they now offer free regular shipping at any price and free returns. You can browse beauty exclusives, shoes (they have a massive collection of small and big size shoes), fashions, and of course the Half-Yearly sale which is currently going on now.
7. Lastcall.com: This little sister site of Neiman Marcus has designers like BCBG, Vince, Michael Michael Kors, and more up to 50% off plus periodically has sales with an extra 20-50% off. You can qualify for free shipping with orders over $75 and sometimes at any price. Returns are via pre-paid label (a small fee) or at a Last Call store.
8. Gap.com: You gotta love a classic and with frequent 30-40% off sales, you gotta love Gap. Jeans, soft scarves, and thick tights galore plus free shipping on any order over $50 and combined shipping if you shop within the Gap Inc. family at OldNavy.com, Piperlime.com, BananaRepublic.com, and Athleta.com.
9. TheOutnet.com: Carefully edited designer labels at up to 70% off and it’s laid out magazine style? Yes, please! This sale sister site of Net-a-Porter.com is also about serious customer service. I usually get my items next day with regular shipping (another perk of living in NYC) and exchanges for size are free subject to stock availability. Returns are $7.95.
10. Hautelook.com: I do love sites like Rue La La, Gilt Groupe, and ideeli, but find I buy the most from Hautelook.com because of the great beauty brands they offer. Whenever Rock & Republic beauty is on sale, I go crazy trying to grab up the brand’s iconic blushes before everyone else. Shipping does take some time (sometimes too long in my opinion) but they’re upfront about delivery time so you’re never really guessing. If you need an invite to Hautelook, click here.
Those are mine! What are your favorite online shopping sites?
