Benefit Sun Beam: Hollywood Glow in a Bottle? Uh, Yeaaah

It’s no secret. I have a strong obsession for highlighters that stems from my other strong obsession of blush. I can’t help it! Something about having sculpted glowing cheeks makes my world go ’round. Perhaps it all goes back to my Catholic school upbringing in Queens?

Yeah, anyway, I may have looked like an oil slick within 2 hours of trying Benefit’s latest foundation, but if there’s one thing the brand does right, it’s highlighter. I remember my first Benefit highlighter—Hollywood Glow. I used it on a client waaay back and the glow it gave her cheekbones still stays with me. Sadly, I believe Benefit discontinued Hollywood Glow for whatever reason (meanies—bet they hate unicorns, too), but they still have an awesome lineup of highlighters that suits just about every skin tone. Their latest Sun Beam (which I bought myself) is like a golden walk through the sun—whatever that means. I don’t know…I just type and let the words flow sometimes. *shrug*

Anyway, so Sun Beam is a gorgeous golden liquid luminizer. It comes in Benefit’s usual nail polish bottle-like container and it’s so easy to apply you don’t necessarily need a makeup brush. Use enough and all of a sudden you’re Diana Ross performing in Central Park in 1983 (a look you soooo want to emulate). Use a little and you’ve got a soft glow—Nia Long or Jennifer Lopez-esque. This stuff is literally golden. Put it on top of your cheekbones, on your brow bone, and/or the bow of your lip. You must try.

The glow forced me to have a little impromptu photoshoot in my car with my iPhone while I was on my way to an appointment…

…yeah that “shoot” didn’t turn out so well…lol. And what am I even looking at?

Bottom line: If you’re as much of a luminizer/highlighter nut as I am, go and get this now. Works on all skin tones. If you’re fair, use sparingly.

I think you look so beautiful and very femme fatale in the pic. I’m heading to LA for spring break and was kind of looking for beauty items to give me a little glow while I’m there. I think I’ll give this a try. I’m slightly hesitant because my skin is super oily and tends to give me my own (not so flattering) glow, but hopefully I can pull of Benefit’s Sun Beam without looking like a human disco ball :)

so glad you did this review. i want that laura mercia radiance but that price tag is NOT the business. i tried this sunbeam in sephora the other day and i didn’t rub it in good obviously because i felt like ti was too ashy looking.

i love it on your skin. gonna pick some of this up. def more wallet friendly and i can mix this with moisturizer to make my own “radiance.” score!

i’ll probably end up with the radiance at some point but right now i’m going to go for the sunbeam.

I saw this in Sephora recently and thought it was sooo pretty! I contained myself and put it back, but now I wish I hadn’t! That’s what happens when I try to be good, lol!

Beautiful! How different is it from Moon Beam? I’ve had that one for a while but I’ve JUST realized its awesomeness.

      Hey Bukky!

I don’t own it, but Moon Beam seems to have more pink in it. Hope that helps!

This picture is beautiful, a little different from the others because of the angle.
