The Style and Beauty Doctor Reporter: Jenny Packham Fall 2012 Show Recap

Since I’m out in Vegas covering WWDMAGIC, I recruited some lovely fellow fashion-obsessed writers to cover some shows. I knew I had to pick Mariah Serrano, a fashion design student who has a serious interest in fashion journalism, style analysis, and trend forecasting, because I absolutely loved her candid and professional writing style. The second I read her “Vogue and Its Teenage Daughter” post on her blog Miss Fashion Fin Daily, I fell in love. She recently attended the Jenny Packham fall 2012 show at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week for me. Check out her recap…you’ll feel like you were there!

There’s nothing groggy about Lincoln Center at 8:45 A.M. even though it’s a bitter NYC morning in February. Where as there was a time that the entrance for winter fashion week was once a sea of black, it appears we’re all feeling a little colorful this morning in contrast to the grey overcast. I wait patiently in line eager to see what I thought to be one of the most feminine, light on the eyes designers I could think of. As soon as I’m settled I’m already getting the idea that maybe something’s up. Dita Von Teese, surrounded by a sea of camera flashes and interviewers old Hollywood style is elegantly sitting front row. Something’s up.

After much chattering and anticipation, the lights dim to a darkness and the music breaks to begin again. Models walk out too fierce to function—normally Jenny Packham models float down the runway. Although cuts are modest in a 40s glamour way, there’s a modern strength that shines through. The models’ waists are cinched—they’re still women and that’s still being celebrated in traditional Jenny Packham fashion, but there’s more to it, they’re powerful and sharp. Bold reds against nude black and white make up a palette that suits the silhouettes. There were flawless, intricate beading details on the evening wear to remind us that we are at a Jenny Packham show all the while pleasantly suprising me with something so much more modern!

Thanks, Mariah!
