Celebrity News: Steven Tyler and J. Lo Leave American Idol, Justin Bieber Sued, Shaq TV, and MORE!
It’s Fridayyyy! While you’re waiting for the clock to tick to happy hour time, here’s some celebri-tea to get you through the day a wee bit faster.
STEVEN TYLER AND J. LO LEAVE AMERICAN IDOL. Steven Tyler, one-third of the “American Idol” judge’s table, announced yesterday that he would not be returning to the long-running reality show next season. The Aerosmith singer has only been on the judge’s panel for two seasons but he says that now is the right time for him to return to his first love: music.
I strayed from my first love, AEROSMITH, and I’m back – but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I’ve got two fists in the air and I’m kicking the door open with my band. The next few years are going to be dedicated to kicking some serious ass – the ultimate in auditory takeover.
Apparently, Tyler and his Aerosmith bandmates are launching this “auditory takeover” fairly soon; their new album is set for release on November 6. (tmz.com)
On the heels of Tyler’s announcements, fellow judge, Jennifer Lopez, announced today that she would also not be returning to “Idol” for another season. Lopez, like Tyler, said that she wants to get back to her old career:
I have my movies and my music and all that. It kind of worked together for a while but it gets more complicated as the kids get bigger… It just started feeling like it was a lot and something had to give. And that’s, I think, where I am right now…I have to come back to my, like, other responsibilities and other things that you do. You have to pay attention to that, too. I could keep doing ‘Idol’ for the rest of my life, but that would be giving up a bunch of other things and I just, I don’t know, I feel like we had an amazing run.
SHAQ GETS HIS OWN SHOW. Following in the footsteps of his ex-wife, Shaunie O’Neal, the creator and executive producer of VH1’s “Basketball Wives,” retired basketball player Shaquille O’Neal has signed on for his own series. Some time this year “Upload with Shaquille O’Neal” will debut on truTV. On the show, Shaq, Gary Owen, and Godrey will search the interwebs for the funniest online videos and create their own viral videos and parodies. It does not sound like my cup of tea. QUEEN LATIFAH PLANS TO ADOPT. During her appearance on “The View” on Wednesday, Queen Latifah revealed that she is working on adopting a child. The rapper-actress said that she had begun considering adoption after seeing a movie special on the topic. When “The View” host Barbara Walters asked if she was serious about adoption, the Queen responded,
I’m totally serious, so if you got a kid that you don’t… Just give me a year — let me set up camp and send me the kid. But no, no totally.
JUSTIN BIEBER BEING SUED OVER LOUD CONCERT. You really can’t write this stuff. Stacey Wilson Betts, who went to a Justin Bieber concert with her daughter in 2010, is suing the young crooner for $9.2 million. Why, you ask? According to Betts, a “sound blast” coupled with the screaming fans has damaged her hearing, and she has suffered from ringing in the ears and hypersensitivity to sound. Betts claims that Bieber was negligent in asking his fans to scream. I think the mom is really reaching here. When you go to a concert, there’s really only one thing that’s guaranteed: it’s going to be loud. Let’s see how this Bieber v. Betts lawsuit turns out. (huffingtonpost.com)
MICHAEL CLARKE DUNCAN GOES INTO CARDIAC ARREST. Late last night, former “Celebrity Apprentice” star Omarosa Stallworth discovered her boyfriend, “Green Mile” actor Michael Clarke Duncan, in a state of cardiac arrest. According to TMZ, Stallworth performed CPR and was able to revive Duncan. He was then transported to an L.A. hospital where doctors were able to stabilize his heart rate. Doctors are currently performing tests to figure out the cause of the cardiac arrest. (tmz.com)
KANDI BURRUSS AND NENE LEAKES FIGHT? The other day I reported that Nene Leakes’s son Bryson was arrested for violating his probation. Well, it seems like Mama Leakes hasn’t been on her best behavior either. According to Sister2Sister, Leakes and her castmate, Kandi Burruss, got into a fight with production during the filming of the fifth season of “Real Housewives of Atlanta.” It’s unclear whether Kandi and Nene were fighting each other or actually fighting members of the production staff. (Isn’t Kandi’s current boo on the production team?) Hmm, I guess everything will be cleared up when season 5 of RHOA debuts on Bravo later this year. (s2smagazine.com)
