Are you watching Iyanla Vanzant’s “Fix My Life” on the OWN network? If not, you don’t know what you’re missing! Vanzant, largely known as an inspirational speaker, author and life coach, has an “in your face, take accountability” approach that often leaves her subjects and viewers in tears. If you caught the premiere episode of “Fix My Life” with VH-1 reality star Evelyn Lozado, then you know Vanzant’s mission is to make YOU go beyond the surface to figure out how YOU got yourself in certain situations. While that particular episode is the soundtrack to my life (that’s another story for another time), what really stuck out to me is the concept that everyone is responsible for his/her own happiness. Don’t get me wrong. Sometimes in life we’re placed in situations that are beyond our control. But still, it’s up to us to dust ourselves off and keep striving forward.
So how do you find your happy you ask? It’s all in your attitude. As the book The Secret suggests, you are what you are attract. In other words, be positive. Be positive about life, be positive about yourself and be positive when it comes to your goals. In today’s fast-paced culture, it’s easy to dismiss minor achievements and feel like you’re not up to par with everyone else, especially if you use social media. But once again, it’s all in your attitude.
Everyone has his/her own path to follow. Stay focused on your own journey and know that your season of greatness is coming. I encourage you to surround yourself with positivity and block out all things that may hinder your way to happiness. That could relate to blocking out certain television shows, negative music or the internet. Yes, it’s okay not to be logged on to technology 24/7.
