2012′s Top 5 Style Stars

Can you believe 2012 is now a distant memory? I swear just the other day I was saying 5, 4, 3, 2, 1…Happy New Year on 12/31/2011…lol. But yes, the year is done and you know how everyone does those year in review specials? We’re doing one, too at The Style and Beauty Doctor in partnership with Motions Hair! (The team over at Motions is totally on the same page as me when it comes to loving great fashion AND great hair ;)

Anyway, see the thing about these year-end tribute type posts is that I have short term memory…lol. I can barely remember something that happened this morning let alone all year. Plus there were so many great looks this year that it’s hard to pick five, so I’m going to cheat a bit and pick five overall style stars for the year. And just so you know picking only five was very tough as well, but then if I picked more, we’d be here for like a month…lol.

Anyway, without further adieu, here’s our Top 5 Style Stars…

Ciara. No one has made me want to throw down my box of cookies and pick up some free weights more than Ciara has this year. From her on-stage looks to just her casual strolling through L.A. outfits, she really caught my eye this year. And her hair! She played around a lot with color this year whether she has a long bob or her signature long waves and I loved every minute of it.

If you’re a color girl like Ciara, make sure you keep your hair protected with a weekly treatment like Motions Deep Penetrating Treatment which works to close the hair cuticle to slow breakage, increase pliability and helps prevent split ends. It’s also infused with wheat protein and pumpkin seed extract to strengthen each strand and smells great.

Solange. Solange caught our hearts this year with every mixed print outfit, every new fashion campaign, and her gorgeous head of hair along with her free-spirit. She was the girl who’s closet we wanted to raid, who we wanted to know every single product she used, and she was such a style chameleon—the more ferocious her ‘fro got, the bolder her fashion choices. I loved every single second of it.

Solange is quite the hair chameleon as well, but one mainstay product you can use no matter your style is Motions Marula Natural Therapy Hair And Scalp Oil. It’s great for braided styles, extensions, curly styles, and straight styles. This 100% pure African Marula oil is rich in antioxidants, essential minerals and amino acids and permeates each strand of hair to protect against damage caused by heat styling and the environment. It also helps to protect against breakage and restores hair’s pliability.

Kerry Washington. Oh Kerry. Whether she’s keeping us on the edge of our seats every week in Scandal or making us swoon at her every red carpet appearance, Kerry is definitely an it-girl. I can’t begin to tell you how many times I’ve recreated a makeup or hair look because I saw Kerry wearing it…lol. Her fashion choices are always perfect, too. I love that she has such a soft look to her even when she opts for edgier looks.

It seems that all celeb stylists are dying to work with Kerry…and I’ve actually had the pleasure of working with one that has! Motions’ Global Ambassador has had the pleasure of coiffing Miss Washington’s tresses for a number of public appearances. One of Ursula’s favorite products to use especially on the red carpet is Motions Hold & Shine Styling Spray – something to help smooth down her hair and keep it in place. Motions Hold & Shine Styling Spray is a water-free formula that offers brilliant shine, all-day humidity resistance and 24-hour hold without the stickiness of some other hair sprays. It also protects hair against the dullness of frizz and the messiness of fly-aways.

Miranda Kerr. The Victoria’s Secret model has proved again and again this year that style for her doesn’t stop on the runway or at a photo shoot. She has made effortless casual style look so…well, effortless! You know how sometimes supermodels look great all dolled up but sometimes fashion doesn’t always translate when they’re in civilian clothes? Not Kerr—she knocked the style game out of the park this year and now that she’s been announced as the new face of Spanish fast-fashion retailer Mango, we’ll be sure to be seeing more from her in 2013.

There were so many pictures of Miranda Kerr’s style from this year, but I had to truncate due to spacing! I will definitely be adding some elements of her style (skinny jeans, bold colored heels, hats, and scarves) into my looks.

For Miranda’s signature bouncy model hair, Motions Extra Firm Foaming Wrap Lotion with its extra firm hold formulation that holds hair in place for a beautifully soft style all day long, will get you there.

Kelly Rowland. That gorgeous skin, the way she wears color, the way she easily goes from curly to straight—Ms. Rowland was definitely a stunner this year. Her fashion took on a bit of a saucy turn but the singer still managed to keep it classy.

One thing about Kelly’s hair no matter the style is it always has great shine. Get radiant hair with Motions Radiating Gloss, a featherweight serum that provides a natural and even luster to all natural hair types. It contains natural ingredients, such as shea butter, coconut oil and avocado oil, smoothes and transforms dry hair and delivers non-stop frizz control for a radiant shine.
