Winter SUCKS. I mean, there’s the fact that it gets dark at like 4:30 P.M., the cold temperatures, and the snow. ALL THAT SNOW. *sigh* Not to mention the fact that my skin can feel like a Céline bag at times. So to combat some of the dryness I like to luxuriate in body washes and moisturizing lotions. It’s like my little spa moment when I can’t get to an actual spa.
Karen’s Body Beautiful, the Brooklyn-based organic beauty company headed by Karen Tappin who not only took her business from a home-based venture to a successful enterprise in just seven years, but who also has THEE most amazing hair, sent over a variety of items from their line of hair and body products. I dipped into the Maximum Moisture Body Lotion ($12 for 7.1 oz) and Body Wash ($10 for 7.1 0z) first, of course.
At first I thought something with a thinner consistency like the Maximum Moisture Body Lotion wouldn’t do much for my skin in the winter. And as it turns out, I was wrong…lol. MMBL is made from a base of olive oil and includes purified water, vegetable glycerin, vegetable wax, organic aloe vera, fragrance, and/or essential oil, ascorbic acid, and vitamin E. Typically a lotion of this consistency is great for me in the spring/summer, but I was very pleased to see that my skin was properly moisturized when using Maximum Moisture Body Lotion. OMG and the smell! There’s a hint of a sweet grapefruit smell to it that is absolutely heavenly. Once my review sample runs out, I’m definitely getting another bottle.
As for the Body Wash, it contains purified water, saponified coconut, olive oil, jojoba and vegetable oils, vegetable glycerin, organic aloe vera, essential and/or fragrance oils. It feels AMAZING on the skin—as if it adds a moisturizing layer to the skin as you use it without making the shower all slippery…lol. I just wish it smelled more like the Maximum Moisture Body Lotion. It’s not a bad scent (I can’t put my finger on what it is about, but I’m guessing it might be the coconut mixed with the other ingredients) and it doesn’t linger which is great—and of course everyone’s fragrance sensitivities are different. I do love the way the Body Wash feels on my skin and if Karen’s Body Beautiful were to come out with more scents, I’d definitely scope those out.
I’d also add that I love the packaging. The Maximum Moisture Body Lotion has a pump which allows for a neat application of the product while the Body Wash comes in a pour top (similar to shampoo) and has a reinforced cover underneath with a small hole to prevent the bottle from dispensing too much product.
Bottom line: This are worth a look especially if you love body products. They both perform well and the price and amount of product you receive are both quite reasonable.
