Current Obsession: See by Chloé Parfum

see by chloe perfume

Sometimes I can be a bit of a perfume stalker. Because I’m very particular with my scents (if it’s not a woodsy oriental, it usually ain’t right for me), it takes me a while to decide on whether a scent truly works for my body chemistry. There have been times when I would buy a scent that I loved after several trips to the department store only to get it home and realize it makes me sick. Which is different than other perfume stories you see on this site that are comprised of notes that I’m not particularly into—for those I report on the notes and who I could imagine wearing the scent plus the longevity of the fragrance. But when it comes to picking out my own scent—sometimes it can be a process.

Like it took about four trips to Sephora to splash the new See by Chloé fragrance on my wrists and then another trip to ask for a take-home sample and then another week or two after that to decide that I was actually in love with the mix of jasmin, ylang, vanilla, and musk. I mean, musk, yes—ALL me. But I have never been too big on jasmin (though I do adore my niece Jasmine–tee hee) and vanilla I’m on the fence about mostly but mostly “meh.” But mix those notes together and you get something that on first spray may not seem great, but honey, wait for that dry down and you’ll want to strut down some imaginary runway. I also love that the scent lingers on throughout the day so I can revisit it if I happen to get on the smelly car on the subway.

Price and where to buy: $58 for 1 oz; $78 for 1.7 oz; $98 for 2.5 oz at Nordstrom, Dillards, Lord & Taylor, Bloomingdales, and Sephora.
