You read that right! Your favorite haunts for on-season fashion pieces at up to 40% off retail are setting up to house their wares ONLINE! In a move that has us TJ Maxx and Marshalls breathing a very loud “IT’S ABOUT TIME” sigh, the two stores made an announcement today that they plan to enter e-commerce.
No word yet on when this will happen, just knowing it’s coming is enough solace for the constant shopper’s heart. I’ve personally seen Prada, J. Brand, Rebecca Minkoff, and other great designers (I also saw someone on Twitter post a Christian Louboutin sighting at their local TJ) so to be able to have a chance at grabbing the goods without having to change out of my pajamas is extremely exciting.
So why did it take so long for brands like TJ Maxx/Marshalls to enter into e-commerce? I mean, it IS 2013 after all. According to AdAge, for off-price brands, the main challenge has been sourcing enough of one item, as stores often carry just a few units of each piece. Then Gilt Groupe proved it could be done.
