In an attempt to get back on a regular fitness routine and to right all the wrongs I’ve committed in recent months, I bought Jillian Michaels‘ “Extreme Shed & Shred DVD.” I’m no stranger to Jillian Michaels workout DVDs, in fact she’s my go-to guru when it comes to breaking a sweat at home. A combo of her “Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism” and Dr. Ian’s Fat Smash Diet helped me lose close to 30 lbs in 2009.
So the premise behind Extreme Shed & Shred is that combining everything from kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to yoga and weight training will get you in knockout shape quickly. I’m only about two weeks in and felt I noticed a slight difference (ugh and then PMS took over and now I feel like a beached whale :x) in the way my chest area looked already.
What I love most about this workout is that it’s intense but it’s divided into two parts totaling about an hour, but it’s designed so that when you finish the first half you can decide to go to the cool down or go onto the second workout. Since I hadn’t worked out in a while, I was winded from just the warm-up, but I kept at it and was able to make it through the first half of the workout without much trouble after about a week. I think by next week I should be able to do both with only minor issues. And about a week after that? I’ll be a pro, yo!
I like that there’s so many different types of moves so I feel like I get a great workout without having to leave the house and sit in the gym for two hours getting bored. I’ll have an update once I’m able to complete both parts.
Oh—it also comes with a meal plan that I’ll have to check out after PMS has stopped making me a crazed animal :/
Price and where to buy: typically about $10. I got it at Target but this is available almost everywhere online.
