Beautiful Textures Texture Manageability System + Avoiding Heat Damage

Beautiful Textures recently launched their Texture Manageability™ System (TMS) and had an exclusive Ultimate Beauty Getaway in Miami last month hosting beauty editors, bloggers, and vloggers for three days of learning about the system, how curls bounce back, and of course the ever dreaded heat damage. I was amongst the group who got to learn about the system, pick the brains of the brand’s marketing team, and ask questions of the celebrity natural hair stylists.

In a nutshell, TMS is an amino acid (protein) treatment that helps you go from curly to straight and back to curly. It helps to manage your texture and helps you to achieve straightness for up to 4 to 6 weeks. BUT Beautiful Textures wants us to know it’s not a keratin treatment—keratin treatments typically have a longer “life span” in terms of how long it’s supposed to keep your hair straight. What makes it different? It doesn’t include any chemicals that permanently change your hair.

So how does it work?

TMS is a three step system as you can see above. Then to upkeep the texture manageability, you use the maintenance products (shampoo and leave-in) to help ease the straightening process, avoid frizz, protects the hair from heat, and keep your hair smoother longer. Alternatively, if you have a tighter curl pattern, you can use the products in steps 1 and 2 and skip the blow dryer & flat iron to “stretch” your curls. It’s also great for ladies who relax their hair and stretch the time in between relaxers or for those doing long transitions who want to manage the new growth. Also the natural who heat styles—this is billed as a safer option to your routine. And it’s also great for those of us who wear weaves from time to time—not only does it help with blending your leave-out, but it can also help revive your human hair extensions.

But with all things, it is super important to read and follow the enclosed directions. There’s certain timing to follow depending on your hair type (i.e. color treated). Not only that, but while the system helps you to revert back to curly, you have to fully understand how “heat damage” works. There’s a “point of no return” when the hair follicle breaks down from the heat and won’t curl back no matter how much heat protectant you use. Celebrity natural hairstylists Felicia Leatherwood and Pam Hogan were both on hand for demonstrations as well as to give us the 411 on how to use TMS. Felicia explained that most of us have different curl patterns on our heads—some areas are looser, some might be tighter. What happens sometimes with heat damage is you need to be able to adjust your technique for these different areas (adjust heat setting, not pulling on looser textured areas with flat iron, etc.) Because you know—you can’t have carte blanche when it comes to the flat iron.

TMS has a suggested retail price of $7.99 and can be found at mass market retailers nationwide.

Some of you had questions you asked on social media and I got the Beautiful Textures team to answer them! Check it out…

Can you work out and it will still stay straight?

Yes, you can still work out–the product makes it easier for hair to stay straight after working out.

Will humidity make it frizz?

The product will substantially reduce the amount of fizziness that women will experience. Some women haven’t experienced any fizziness at all!

Are the products organic or gluten-free or paraben-free or free from all the other bad stuff?

The product is gluten and paraben free.

      Hey Penny!

You could—it doesn’t contain the harsh chemicals a relaxer does. The Strength of Nature brand also makes one of these kits for kids under the African Pride Dream Kids line if you want to check that one out :)

I see that the TMS (kit) comes with 4 products, and that the gentle cleansing and inner-active leave-in is used before blow drying and flat ironing; is the anti-reversion shampoo and conditioner for continuing to straighten or stretch your hair, if not what is it for? I usually only straighten once a year and keep it straight 2-4 weeks, what should I purchase/use? Also, do you need to use the Curly to Straight Flat Iron Silkener to get the best results or is that an extra step for a particular hair texture? Lastly, lol, does the kit tell you what temperature to use based on your texture or according to how straight you want your hair?

I have relaxed hair but am trying to strech for longer periods. When I do relax what will happen when the chemicals mix.

      Hey!

I asked the Beautiful Textures teams about your questions and this is the response I got:

“The Texture Manageability System doesn’t interact negatively with relaxed hair. The system helps straighten textured hair with the use of its Inner-Active Leave-in Conditioner. Those currently wearing relaxers, keratin treatments and texturizers can use the Texture Manageability System, because it’s simply a heat-activated leave-in conditioner. It does not permanently change your tresses. It will help extend the time between relaxer touch-ups, so we do encourage you to try it.

For the exact science behind the TMS and it’s effects on your hair, please read our FAQ page, which lists dos, don’ts and ingredients.

Hey! Dream Kids is the line for kids and Beautiful Textures is the line geared towards curls. You can find out more on the brands at http://www.talkingtexture.com

I should have asked do adults need to get the beautiful textures product or can adults use dream kids too. My hair has been natural for three years and I went to Sallys yesterday picked up dream kids, only to realize they are two different products. Is beautiful textures stronger?

Hey, so I used the manageability treatment and wasn’t really pleased. I’m not sure if it was something I did wrong or what. I wanted to know if I washed my hair to reverse the treatment will it damage my hair in any way.

      Hey Imani!

Did you follow the directions step by step? This is one of those things where you can’t just wing it and really need to make sure you follow the step by step instructions. What weren’t you pleased about?

Washing shouldn’t cause any damage because you’d need to wash your hair anyway. You can find more info at http://www.talkingtexture.com

I bought just the shampoo & conditioner before reading about the product. Will it help with straightening & frizziness if i dont use the whole kit? I was mostly looking for something to fight humidity.

Is it ok to use other brand of shampoo, deep conditioners or hair moisturizer in between Texture treatment?

      Hey Yolonda!

Check out the http://www.talkingtexture.com site but I personally would say yes and no. There are certain products (like clarifying shampoos and conditioners) that can “negate” the system so you wanna make sure you’re not using something counterproductive so to speak.

      hey Tiffany!

You don’t have to flat iron same day—in fact some people with tighter curl patters use the system without flat ironing to slightly (and temporarily) loosen their curl pattern. Check out http://www.talkingtexture.com for more info from the brand :)

I have a 5yr old that has very thick & long hair. I usually twist her hair into individual kinky twist (no extentions) it’s very hard to do her hair because it tangles & hurts her so much. Could this product work for her or what should I get? I really don’t want any hard chemicals like perms in her hair. I’d like to keep her natural texrure. Please help!
