My Updated Foundation Routine {Dark Skin}

Makeup by Andi Yancey

When I was a makeup artist it was important to take classes to brush up on skills and learn more from other artists. Though the only face I beat these days is my own, I still love to learn different ways to do things when it comes to my makeup. After having my makeup done by makeup artist du jour Andi Yancey for our Face Flawless Skin photo shoot, I HAD to have Andi show me some of her secrets. So we booked a session together and I learned a few things that I now use in my makeup routine. I now contour differently because of Andi and I wanted to share a few things I learned.

Andi gave me a number of a-ha moments including contouring with ONLY powders, smoking out my waterline, and opting for different products for my highlight. You can see all of this go down in the video below.

    Loved the video and new tricks. I’ll definitely be trying some of them out.

    You said that you now highlight and contour with powders? Is there a reason Andi Yancey gave for her preferring to do it that way as opposed to with a cream like you were doing before? And what is the difference, if there is one, that you noticed.If you feel like I’m asking too many questions and should refer to Andi herself, I apologize. I just want to improve my makeup skills through your blog.

      Hey!

      I actually said I contour with powders. I still highlight with concealer and set it with a highlight setting powder. And even when I used a cream before, I still set both my highlight and contour with corresponding powders. Did you have a chance to watch the video to see it in action? I actually have some really helpful videos on my youtube channel (www.youtube.com/styleandbeautydoctor) including ones where I used a cream contour and set it with a contour powder so you can see for yourself the differences.

      But I get the same effect with my contour using just a powder as I would with cream + powder to contour, so I didn’t need the extra step nor the extra product…lol. It’s not “wrong” to use both though, so if you’re doing it that way and like it, then you don’t have to change.
