A Quick Glimpse Into My Typical Day

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Tazo® Tea for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

You guys see the results of my labor—the blog posts and the edited videos, but every now and then I figure it’d be cool to show you what a typical day might look like for me as a full time blogger. So here’s the funny part—I very rarely tell people what I do for a living because even though blogging has hit the mainstream, there are still many people who don’t get it. Some of my neighbors are probably still scratching their head because they used to see me leaving at the crack of dawn in a business suit groggily heading to my former finance job and now they see me dressed suuuuper casual (usually some iteration of shorts and a t-shirt) and either I’m lugging a ton of clothes and shoes to and fro, a shopping cart filled with packages, or toting some suitcases. I can’t even imagine the answers I’d get if I took a poll and had them guess what I do for a living…lol.

My life as a self-employed creative can take me on any type of adventure imaginable. I can be floating around internationally on a press trip or attending really fun beauty and fashion events looking like I’m doing all the coolest things ever. But typically I’m at home in Queens furiously cranking out content in week-old pajamas…lol.

Here’s what one of those typical days looks like…

7 AM: Rise and shine!

If I could be up at 6 A.M. on a regular basis, I’d totally do it. I get SO much work done before 11 A.M. I settle for 7 A.M. though since travel and a hectic schedule of late has kept me super busy. First thing I do is check my phone for social media mentions then I head into the kitchen to make breakfast. I contemplated taking pictures of what I typically eat for breakfast but I had to be honest with myself in that while my food tastes yummy, it’s not camera-ready. Ever…lol. One thing I do like to have to start my day is a cup of tea. Tazo® Tea is typically what I’d get when I make tea runs but on days when I’m working from home, it’s not always easy to venture out. No prob, because I have the Tazo hot filterbags on stash. This day I’m drinking Zen™, a harmonious blend of green tea with lemongrass and spearmint but typically when I’m on the go I’ll get the Awake English™ Breakfast—a breakfast-style black tea of malty boldness and bright flavor. There’s also Passion®, an exuberant herbal infusion of hibiscus, orange peel, rose hips & passion fruit flavors.

9AM-12 PM: Photograph products & edit pics for blog posts

If the light is great outside, I’ll usually take this opportunity to go outside on the balcony and get product pics for the blog. I have until a little after 12 PM before the sun moves away from my pic-taking spot to get the kind of shots I like. After the sun moves? Better luck tomorrow or the next sunny day. If it’s cloudy or passed my direct sunlight window, I focus on getting lifestyle pics including things for Instagram because that type of lighting is perfect for those kind of images.

12:30 PM: Lunch

One of the best things for me about working from home is getting to cook my meals (when I can and also when I’m up to it). But again, while my meals taste yummy, not even a Snapchat filter can make them camera-ready—so I took the easy route and photographed some fruit…lol. I do tend to get a little sleepy after lunch so I have a nice pick-me-up via a cup of Tazo tea. I also like it post-meal because the caffeine helps keep me satiated longer.

1-5 PM: Back to work

I’ll work on content ideas, research products I need to try and test, go on Pinterest or Instagram for inspo, schedule my evergreen content to post on social media, edit videos, or work on new blog posts.

5 PM: Mail run and dinner

I get a lot of packages so I use a mail service and I go to pick up either daily or every other day. When I get back I go through what came in and sometimes I Snapchat the process to give you guys a sneek peak. I’m stylenbeautydoc on Snapchat—follow me :) I’ll quickly make something quick and easy for dinner. Dinner time typically varies depending on the day’s workload.

6-8 PM: Photo/video shoot prep

So depending on what came in the mail I’ll see what kind of content can be made of it. Lately I’ve been putting together a lot of fashion content in addition to a ton of other stuff so I’ll spend time putting looks together for photo and video shoots. The night before a shoot I’ll put together all the outfits so they’re ready to go when I leave the house at 9 AM to head over to Nasilele Photography to shoot.

9-11 PM: Wind down

I’ll take this time to make myself another cup of Tazo tea. I sometimes like to add Carnation milk and some sugar to it just like I watched my mom do hers growing up. I’ll check out what’s on TV or depending on the workload, I may try to finish editing videos, draft a blog post, or edit pictures.

Beauty events:

Sometimes on top of doing all of this, I also have beauty events to attend. Travel time to and from Manhattan can sometimes add up to three hours so I’ll sometimes come up with blog content while on the train and even draft posts through my WordPress app.

So that’s what a typical day looks like for me—thanks for following along! Some days are way more hectic than others. One day I’ll have to show you what it’s like on days when I have meetings, when I have photo shoots, when I shoot video, when I work with brands, etc. Thanks to Tazo® Tea for helping me keep up the momentum during the day—I need my energy to be on 100 even while at home creating content.
