TSABD Edit: BECCA Lush Lip Colour Balm Review & Swatches on Dark Skin

Read ALL about my review process including how I take swatches, photos, and more here.

My TSABD Edit schedule is a bit off during summer because I like to “vacay” a bit (plus internet traffic goes down during summer anyway) so while I typically like to post these on Tuesdays, here we are on a Monday :) Plus I have a bunch of new products that came my way so you might actually see another one of these this week. Make sure you’re subscribed to the blog so you get an email when new posts are up.

BECCA Cosmetics recently launched the BECCA Lush Lip Colour Balm, a collection of eight “there’s a nude for everybody” shades. According to the press release, it’s crafted to give you a combination of the comfort of a lip balm with everything we love about a lipstick. It’s ultra-creamy, luxuriously lightweight, and has buildable coverage so you can customize your coverage level. It’s also free of sulfates, parabens and phthalates and infused with jojoba oil to keep lips nourished and hydrated.

I was invited to the press launch party and was amazed at the color range and also happy to see BECCA launch something that (at least it does to me) goes back to their roots of being a brand with a very inclusive shade range and an aesthetic that is pretty, beachy, sexy and attainable. I personally feel that A LOT of makeup brands have gotten caught up with the Instagram makeup aesthetic where everyone looks the same as opposed to staying true to their brand’s core aesthetic.

While the formula and color range of the BECCA Lush Lip Colour Balm is amazing, this is the type of product you have to really love the look of for it to warrant your coins. If you’re someone who loves full-on color and brights, you might not want to fork over the $22 for these—and that’s cool. What the beauty industry should be giving us is CHOICES. We all don’t have the same makeup style and preferences and that’s what makes us all beautiful.

Performance-wise, I LOVE the way these feel on my lips. It almost feels like I put a cushion of color on my lips. I was able to get through a meal and still have color on my lips, but these aren’t marketed as long-wearing, so do expect to make some touch-ups throughout the day depending on how much you eat, drink, etc.

Here’s how BECCA describes the eight shades:
Café au Laît: peachy beige
Ginger Vanîlle: pink coral
Almond Fraîse: dusty rose
Chai Créme: tawny brown
Milk Chocolate: mauvey brown
Toasted Hazelnut: rich brown
Cherry Ganache: flattering burgundy
Black Violet: sophisticated plum

I swatched these on my arm and did a video demo to show the swatches on my lips. The way the colors show up can vary due to computer/mobile monitor settings.

Bottom line: BECCA Lush Lip Colour Balm is a dope product IF this is a look that fits in with your makeup style. If you’re a hardcore bold lip color or liquid lipstick or creamy lipstick formula stan, you might not love these. I’d say you’d have to love the look to love these :)

Price and where to buy: $22 each exclusively in store and online at Ulta Beauty and BECCACosmetics.com.

These lipsticks all looked very nice on you, even the lighter shades! That gives me hope for how they’d look on me! The formula sounds very interesting and they look moisturizing. I’ve never tried anything from Becca and this product seems like a nice start because I love all kinds of lipstick. The shades I’m most interested in are Black Violet and Toasted Hazelnut!
