I’ve reviewed probably hundreds of foundations over the last ten years I’ve had this blog (we’ll be officially 10 in November—sheesh, NO clue what I should do to celebrate). But today’s review is very special because I’ve known the creator and brand founder for yeaaaaars. I used to be a makeup artist and one of the things one does to network as well as further your education is to work with more established artists. About 6 or 7 years ago I drove to DC to work a makeup event that Danessa Myricks coordinated and I learned so much from that one experience. Danessa is not only an amazing makeup artist who has consulted many of our favorite makeup brands, she’s an educator, she’s a photographer, and she’s the head of her beauty empire. AND on top of all of this, she’s the sweetest person EVER. (OK and she’s incredibly gorgeous to boot) I was honored when she sent over her range of the Danessa Myricks Beauty Vision Cream Cover Foundation to test out.
Jay Manuel is the only celebrity makeup artist I know who can rock a perfectly manicured ice gray coif while being literally (well not really) on fire. Famously known for his role in 18 seasons of America’s Next Top Model, Jay released an entire lineup of luxury cosmetics which includes The Style & Beauty Doctor approved Filter Finish Powder to Cream Foundation.
In case you haven’t taken a stroll through Instagram or Youtube or just about any beauty blog over the last year or so, contouring has hit the masses. The technique of highlighting (or bringing forward) and contouring (or receding/making smaller) one’s facial features is clearly nothing new under the sun—makeup artists and drag queens have been doing it for centuries. But the makeup trick has hit consumers and brands are of course responding by offering options to beat that face, honey.
I LOVE a stick foundation. They may seem intimidating, but they’re so easy to use. You can use them only where you need them for a quick, natural look. You can layer for additional coverage if you need a little something extra. And not to mention they’re also really portable. Revlon recently came out with their version of the stick with the PhotoReady Insta-Fix Makeup. I was on the scene at a Revlon press event last month where I got to take home some of the new products.
Black Opal Foundation Stick is hands down one of the best foundation sticks for women of color. They’re a fave of many makeup artists (along with cream formulas) as they can easily be manipulated to give them the coverage and finish they need to beat a face. It’s also something non-makeup artists will like in their stash—you can easily and quickly get coverage and vary how you use it for just about any makeup look. The brand sent over all ten shades for review.
The changing of the seasons are always welcomed (maybe except for when it changes over to winter…lol) because it means new makeup! I mean, new makeup comes out in between seasons, too but—grr—you know what I mean! lol
Anyway, so Clinique, who can count probably millions of makeup lovers who l-o-v-e their Chubby Sticks, recently came out with a cheek version–aptly called Chubby Stick Cheek (sent for review consideration).
