Welcome back to another edition of TSABD Edit!
I’ve been a fan of the BECCA Cosmetics brand since they first launched in the U.S. at Bergdorf Goodman and at the Plaza Hotel’s beauty level back around 2005. The brand started by an Australian makeup artist had quite an extensive range of shades (over 30 at first launch I believe) and I marveled at the fact that there were a number of shades deeper than my skintone—I’m typically the deepest or second to deepest shade in some ranges and that’s IF the range even goes that deep—AND that they had deeper shades and more than one undertone. I also admired the type of makeup looks you’d see in BECCA Cosmetics promo images: healthy, glowing skin; groomed brows and supple lips.
Recently I was tasked to try out Nivea Men Sensitive Post Shave Balm which many on Youtube have been raving about as an inexpensive substitute for makeup primer. The reason it works for those enthusiastic beauty gurus is because the product contains glycerin which acts kind of like a glue to keep makeup put for hours. I side-eyed it, but since Nivea Men Sensitive Post Shave Balm *is* a product meant to go on the face (unlike Milk of Magnesia, Monistat, and whatever household items your cousins on Youtube are putting on their faces), I gave it a go. It’s also priced at $5.99 for 3.3 oz which if you’re watching your budget very closely, is still about half the price of even drugstore makeup primers.
January is the PERFECT time to go through your makeup stash and get rid of anything that’s not going to slay your routine. Get rid of those old, crusty foundations, eyeshadows you know good and well that you’re not going to use, and trash those lipsticks that make you look like Tyrone Biggums. Trust me, doing this will make your life 1000% easier and I bet you’ll be less likely to buy more crap you don’t need this year.
It’s that time of year! Whether you’ll be hitting the holiday parties night after night OR hitting the couch to watch Home Alone for an unprecedented amount of times, one thing you need to be doing is keeping that skin together, honey. I stress the importance of skincare all year-round, but you have to think of the things you do all other times of year as prepping for the Olympics that is winter. Winter can be HARD on the skin already, but when you add all the extra cocktails and late night fetes—it can make your skin dry, look lackluster, and can even lead to breakouts. Yikes.
