How to Rock a Trend the 2nd Time Around: 90s Overalls and Chokers

So you know how “they” say if you were old enough to rock a trend the first time around, you should skip it when it comes back again? I’m not (or at least I’m no longer not) someone who subscribes to “age rules.” When I was a kid, they would tell women over the age of about 40 that they should cut their hair above their shoulders in the workplace. You see how that one went down, right? LOL. But there is a only a teeny bit of truth about the trend thing and age. When wearing a trend now that you wore back in the day, you want to take a more modern, fresh take on it when wearing it now.

75+ Black Fashion Bloggers (of All Sizes) #OutfitsInOctober

black fashion bloggers instagram

So of course I had to open #OutfitsInOctober with a host of Black fashion bloggers. I’m OBSESSED with style bloggers. I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve bought something thanks to something a style blogger had on. But, and you don’t need me to tell you this, too often Black style bloggers aren’t represented as much as our counterparts. An excuse people sometimes use are “there aren’t that many Black style bloggers.” BULL. I was able to quickly rattle off this list based on who I follow on Instagram and this is only a fraction—there are way more Black fashion bloggers than this of course (and please leave a comment with your faves below).

Stay tuned for more #OutfitsInOctober—all this month long there’s going to be a fashion OVERLOAD on this blog and on my Youtube channel!

3 Fall Coats $74.80 or Less on Me

stylish fall winter coats under $100

I used to be so against shopping at Forever 21 because in the past anything I bought from there would seem to start to fall apart before I got home and as someone who can be a little indecisive, I’m not a fan of stores that don’t offer refunds (I don’t like exchange only—what if I don’t want anything else? lol). But as my girl Wendy Williams always says (and by my girl I mean I watch her show everyday while I’m working…lol) I’m a woman and I’m allowed to change my mind. It seems as if within the last few years or so, Forever 21 has added a little more time and effort towards quality. I’m not saying you’re getting investment pieces there, but things are holding up much better and with labels like Love 21, I don’t feel like an overgrown teeny bopper when shopping (OMG it’s the worst when I’m in GA with my niece who is now 20 and we’re shopping at the same store)…lol. So I find myself browsing and buying from Forever 21 WAY more than I used to. Which brought me to browsing the outerwear section and ordering a bunch of coats because they looked so cute online and the prices were a freaking steal.

ASOS T-A-L-L!

asos tall

Over the weekend I did one of my usual activities—stalk ASOS.com for new arrivals and was so happy to see that they now carry a few pieces in the ASOS TALL line! At 5’9″ I’m not the tallest girl in the world, but I do often have sleeve, shirt length, skirt length, and pant length issues that do require me to shop tall or make adjustments. But to have one of my favorite retailers come in Tall sizes is like—well, let me just bust out the confetti and pomp and circumstance.

Wear This to Work Tomorrow

You know just because I wear my pajamas to work (I work from home and my commute is literally roll out of bed and walk like 10 feet to the computer…lol), doesn’t mean I can’t help you with stylish work outfits no matter what type of industry you work in. You can check out all work wardrobe related posts here.

Fashion at work is so important because I remember dressing exactly the way I felt when I did work in an office. If I felt dumpy and tired, I dressed dumpy and tired. If I felt like I was ready to make some sales, I wore something fitted…lol. Dressing well for work brings up morale I believe—so who cares if you’re not in the “ideal” job. Dress like you’re at your dream job ;)
