Actress Jessica Alba visited SIRIUS XM Studio the other day in this stylish and comfy outfit which consisted of a single breasted leather blazer, sheer tank, pleated pants, and white double-strapped pumps accessorized with an oversize silver pendant necklace. What’s great about a look like this is some pieces may already be in your closet and it works no matter your size.

If you have thicker thighs or hips, replace the pleated pants for flat front ones to avoid further emphasizing your shape.

The Style and Beauty Doctor reader Skylar recently wrote in asking, “Danielle, this year I’m going into the fifth grade and I want to have the kinda preppy punk style. I’m getting read highlights. I wanted to know if you have any clothing advice for me.”

First, I think it’s sooo cool a ten year old has a sense of style already! When I was ten—well, you don’t even want to know…lol.

Skylar, I think for a preppy punk style, you’ll need:

*Tailored button-down shirts and pair them with funky, printed pants
*Mix prints and go for bold color combos (check out this post on mixing colors in your wardrobe)
*Boyfriend fit jeans and flat, funky boots and shoes

You won’t need to buy a ton of new clothes (besides, you’re still growing so it doesn’t make sense to have a ton of clothes that won’t fit you next year). Mixing and matching is a key element of the preppy, punky style so learn how to put together pieces that you normally wouldn’t.

OK—the title is totally wack of me, but I have no clue what Kim K’s friend’s name is. All I know is I LOVE her outfit. The jacket and A-line skirt paired with the wedged sandals is a hot combo for a girl with a little more to love.

The shape of the skirt is perfect for ladies who have an inverted triangle shape (broader shoulders, more narrow hips). If you’re a plus-size beauty with wide hips/thick thighs, go for a more tapered, less flared skirt.

The 90s are like totally back, for sure! If you wanna rock all the phat gear from way back when, check out this fly guide I put together.

The 90s were all about grunge, hip-hop, and minimalism. Colorful baggy jeans, Doc Martens, flannel shirts, Mary Jane shoes, and anything Calvin Klein reigned. It’s always important to take both your age and your current wardrobe into consideration when you’re deciding if you want to try a new trend. You don’t want a wardrobe filled with trends (then what will you wear when the trend is over?) and you also don’t want to look like your attic exploded and all your old clothes landed haphazardly on your body. The general rule is if you lived through a decade, skip the trend when it comes back around again. But with careful planning you can add elements of the 90s into your look without looking like you just stepped out of an episode of Clarissa Explains It All, My So Called Life, or The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Teens: Have fun and go crazy with this trend. Break out the bright colors, the Doc Martens, and the flannel shirts. Steer clear of anything too tight or too revealing though.

20s: Try out a cute crop top with a pair of skinny jeans and some Doc Martens. Or grab a pleated plaid skirt with a long sleeve tee and a knitted cap. And if you’re really daring, rock a Kelly Bundy/bodycon dress with a tough leather jacket.

30s: Once you hit your late 20s/early 30s, you hit the territory where you have to be very careful about taking the 90s trend too literally. Don’t break out your purple shearling–resist the urge. Please. Instead use 90s inspired accessories with your existing wardrobe. Grab some high top sneakers, a knit cap, some smudgy liner, or even a floral print.

40s: Glam it way up! Knee length fur jackets (faux or real, I won’t judge), slip dresses, and leather anything. Think Carrie Bradshaw first season Sex and the City.

50s: Add some 90s minimalist sophistication to your wardrobe. Ankle-grazing pants, long wool coats, and a touch of leather give a nod to the trend without making you look like you’re wearing a costume.

60s and up: Go crazy with jewelry and jackets: let long cross chains, thick simple bangles, and plaid structured jackets hold court in your wardrobe.

Now I’ve got Beck’s “Loser” stuck in my head after this post…lol.
