It seems as if many are up in arms about First Lady Michelle Obama’s choices in sleeveless clothing. Some say she has great fashion sense and great arms, while others are saying her sleeveless choices are inappropriate for the First Lady. What do you think?

My take: She still looks classy. It’s not like she’s walking around with a wardrobe malfunction and she IS much younger than our last couple of First Ladies so I don’t see the big deal if she wants to wear her arms out. Plus has anyone ever thought maybe she’s going through “the change” and may just be really hot? lol

In honor of Black History Month, all this month I’ll be showcasing Black woman who have made a major impact in the world.

First, we have the first African-American woman to be First Lady, Michelle Obama. Although the First Lady has been mostly covered in the media for her style, she actually has a very impressive resume.

A native of Chicago’s predominantly black south side, Michelle Obama always has been a creature of discipline, decorum and determination. Her résumé is as impressive as her husband’s. She is a 1985 cum laude graduate of Princeton University, a 1988 graduate of Harvard Law School, a former associate dean at the University of Chicago, and was formerly a vice president at the University of Chicago Hospitals.

To her friends, Michelle Obama seems to manage public and private pressures with effortless poise. She is intimately involved with her husband’s work, reading drafts of his major speeches and tweaking his big ideas and little punctuation choices alike, reports Newsweek. She has been his link to African America, its civil-rights movement and its power elite.

Those ties came in handy when her husband, then a state senator, ran for the U.S. Senate in 2004, where he faced a primary dominated by some of the Democratic Party’s most powerful political families. Barack Obama won, thanks to the support of influential black business leaders, some of whom had closer ties to his wife than they did to him. An old boss of Michelle Obama’s, Valerie Jarrett, chair of the Chicago Stock Exchange, was among the most powerful black women in Chicago and served as finance chair of Barack Obama’s campaign, reports Newsweek.

Now as First Lady, Michelle’s focus will be on her two girls, Malia and Sasha and on military families.

“While the world celebrates change today, one friend of the fashion community, designer Isabel Toledo, is dancing in her studio for another (very good) reason. It is her “lemon grass” ensemble that Michelle Obama decided to wear to the inauguration. “We feel so blessed and honored to be woven up in this great time of transition,” said her artist-husband Ruben following the historic occasion.

And while fashion doesn’t always equate with function, that was not the case here. The coat and dress were made of Swiss wool lace and lined with secret layers of pashmina tulle netting inside to keep the newly minted First Lady insulated. “Izz and the ladies in our studio were really concerned about keeping Michelle warm!,” beamed Ruben.”
