NO clue why I’m in such a rush, but I’ve been thinking about fall fashion HEAVILY lately. I’ve been browsing through 80s NYC street style photos from famed photographer Jamel Shabazz (I’m even going to his exhibit at the Studio Museum—thanks to Monroe Steele‘s Harlem Guide post) and getting SUPER inspired for my fall wardrobe. If I had to summarize my fall style aesthetic in a few words, it would be “I don’t really have much money right now, but I’m still gonna be outchea.”
It’s winter coat season! I LOVE this time of year (for the coats, not the weather…lol) since a great statement coat can really take your winter wardrobe to the next level. After all, it’s all most people see when they see you during the colder months—might as well go all the way ;)
Look, I know I say this for just about every designer mass market collaboration because of course all the styled lookbook pics look good, but I have faith that the Altuzarra for Target collection will be amazing. Back when I used to help dress models backstage at NYFW (talk about trying to keep your cool when Joan Smalls, Jourdan Dunn, and Karlie Kloss are thisclose to you while you need to hurry up and get some unbelievably bitchy no-name model in her second look) one of the shows I worked was one of Altuzarra’s fall shows. And not only did Joseph Altuzarra whip by me, but ALT himself was in the same breathing space as me. Anna Wintour came right before the show started to preview the collection (it was a total The Devil Wears Prada moment when word spread she was coming) and walked right by me and smiled at me (because you know, I’m a beaming ray of sunshine…lol). But yes, because of that experience and the fact that Altuzarra makes some of the most amazing clothes and accessories I’ve laid eyes on, I have faith that the Target collab will be fab.
I have a thing for ugly-cute shoes. And my latest thing is for this resurgence of Birkenstocks happening in fashion right now. The once deemed “crunchy granola” hippie shoe (okay—it might still be deemed that in some of your eyes…lol) is now making its way through the fashion circuit with designers like Prada, Celine, and Marni giving their rendition of the “classic” shoe. Not that I’d pay designer prices for this trend, but there’s versions at brands like Steve Madden and Zara that I’m plotting on.
If you’re still looking to catch another glimpse of the Isabel Marant pour H&M collection (see full collection here), pics and video from last night’s presentation party in Paris might be able to sway you. Not only will you get to see Isabel Marant pour H&M worn by celebs and models like Alek Wek, Audrey Tautou, January Jones, Freida Pinto, and more, you’ll also see part of a performance from rap legends Grandmaster Melle Mel and Rappers Delight!
Check it out…
