My 2014 Style Rewind

danielle gray the style and beauty doctor 2014 style rewind

2014 was a pretty interesting year for my style. I went from tomboy-ish and oversized to form-fitting and feminine-ish…lol. I also lost some weight (see how I did it here) and while I probably should have been following my own advice about how to dress when losing or gaining weight, I did not and was kinda buying clothes all the time…lol. Like I’d go down a size and buy something new immediately knowing full well that I wasn’t near goal weight yet. Ugh, but it was so fun and the clothes kept calling me…lol.

I’m obsessed—with a lot of things, of course—but also with buying faux fur accessories. I have more than a few faux fur stoles, faux fur wraps, and even faux fur fingerless gloves. I keep buying them because I always say I’m going to come across an occasion where I want to jazz up one of my jackets or coats and the piece will be the piece I need. Meanwhile I have so many of these pieces. SMH.

My Style: Camo Pants & Red Lips

Danielle gray the style and beauty doctor Camo SHorts outfit GSZ-2

Over the last four years I’ve worked from home—this meant that I went from wearing suits just about everyday to barely getting out of my pajamas before 3 PM. I’d get dressed of course on days when I had press appointments or other events, but I’d be in such a time crunch, I didn’t really have time to document what I wore unless I came across a good selfie mirror…lol. But I’m now trying this thing where I actually get dressed 2-3 times a week and work from my friend Nas of Nasilele Photography‘s studio in Brooklyn and this is the first of I’m hoping many more outfit posts to come (fingers crossed because a girl gets sleepy around 2 PM and needs her naps…lol). I’m also using this as a way to get more usage and inspiration from some of the stuff I have in my closet—it’s kinda like a long drawn out outfit directory similar to the one Cher had in Clueless.

An army of me is ready for Rihanna’s concert!

So as I mentioned yesterday, I’m hitting the Rihanna concert at Barclays this Saturday with Motions Hair Care! The brand has just launched a new line for those with natural hair who want the flexibility of straight styles periodically without sacrificing their curls – Straight Finish Heat Styled System. I’m giving the line a whirl and trying out a new ‘do for the concert which I also detailed yesterday (3 easy steps to take me to straight, sexy hair – I’m sold!), but now I have to figure out what to wear! And of course makeup and nails, too.

The Style and Beauty Doctor reader Haley wrote in asking, “Hey Danielle! I’m a size 18 and looking to revamp my wardrobe. I want to be more fashionable but need some ideas on where to shop. Can you help out?

Hey Haley!

Of course I can help out!

So first things first, it is super important that we all understand that plus size is a size category, not a shape. You can be plus size and have an hourglass shape, a boyish figure, pear-shaped, etc. There will be no “all plus girls should…” statements because every body is different. In fact, I also stress that EVERYONE go through my Dressing for Your Body posts to learn what’s best for your body TYPE no matter it’s SIZE (#shamelessplug).

Bonjour, Montreal! #bonjourmtl

So I’m hereeee! Trying this posting on the go bit. Doing the pics and everything from my iPhone. My flight out of LGA was canceled so I drove to Newark at the weeeeee hours of the morning with my buds Milly of Beauty Logic Blog and Lara of Pretty Connected. I packed like an hour before we had to leave so I broke out these leopard wedges I got courtesy of Sole Society over the summer. I wasn’t sure about them at first but they’re the easiest little wedges and are perfect for travel because they slip on and off quickly.
