I’ve been natural for almost three years. With that being said you can only imagine how much I’ve spent on products that just did not work for my hair type. Finding a product that works for your hair can be like a finding a needle in a haystack, but once you’ve found that product you hold on to it like it’s the last item in stock at a new collection release at MAC Cosmetics!
I have several shampoos that promise to make love to my kinky curls and often times I’m left thinking to myself “was that it, I could have had a V8”. This time my kinky curly lovers consisted of two products from the new Motions Naturally You! line sent to The Style and Beauty Doctor for review consideration. Motions created this line for us natural textured beauties with the promise to treat, condition, and care for our natural hair all while delivering exceptional results every time. I tried out Motions Moisturizing Cleanser and Motions Deep Conditioning Masque.
I would describe my hair as being a melting pot of kinks coils and curls. I’m a 4C around my edges, a majority of dense 4b/a coils in the middle with 3c in the back. Let’s just say my natural hair fairy godmother got around…lol.
Now before I go any further I must warn you that the Motions Moisturizing Cleanser contains sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) as one of it’s first ingredients. This may bother some other naturals, but for me this meant that my hair might actually get clean. Many are scared of using SLS because of the fear of drying out the hair. I, on the other hand, was not worried because I knew that my hair needed a good cleaning and SLS is a detergent that helps you achieve that. Other ingredients in the Moisturizing Cleanser include Shea butter, coconut oil, and avocado oil. With those extra ingredients I knew SLS was nothing to worry about.
The Motions Moisturizing Cleanser was all that and then some! I loved the way it suds up and gave me a lot of slip to be able to detangle my hair while washing. The cleanser did not leave my hair feeling stripped or dry after rinsing it out. In fact it was just the opposite. Upon doing a scalp check I found that my scalp was squeaky clean and I did not have to go in for another wash like I normally would have to do with my usual regimen.
The Deep Conditioning Masque is also infused with Shea Butter, coconut oil, and avocado oil. The consistency was not thick, but also wasn’t too thin that it would run everywhere as you tried to apply it. I applied a generous amount to my hair and then I sat under my soft bonnet dryer for about 45 minutes. Don’t have 45 minutes? No problem, per the instructions you only need 5-10 minutes. After rinsing my hair was soft, detangled, and very manageable.
So what’s the final verdict? Let’s just say these two darlings earned themselves a spot on my Natural Hair shelf! Very moisturizing allows for ease of detangling and leaves my hair manageable and shiny!
