Better Late Than Never: My Thoughts on #RiRiHeartsMAC Talk That Talk

Let’s not even discuss how I had to stalk the websites of MAC, Macy’s, and Nordstrom just to be able to get what I wanted from this collection—press samples were limited and I didn’t want to take any chances. I had to use the precision of Liv’s dad on Scandal as he hid his true occupation from her to be able to snag Talk That Talk Lipstick. But I did it and I got it and now all after the fact when it probably doesn’t matter to you anymore, I’m going to tell you what I think about it anyway.

So in a nutshell, Talk That Talk is a deep berry retro matte lipstick—meaning it has a similar finish to our beloved Ruby Woo. It’s probably the most problematic lipstick I’ve loved to date…lol. It can sometimes be uneven in application and although it lasts really long on the lips as most MAC retro mattes do, if you need to reapply (especially after a meal or drinking), it can sometimes be almost impossible to get the formula to behave. It stains the dry patches on your lips—the ones that you normally wouldn’t have when wearing a regular lipstick but because the formula is so dry on this one, it does. So then these dry patches seem to take residence on your lips so you have to completely take it all off, exfoliate your lips (if you’re out and about a dry napkin works) and then reapply to get a smooth application.

But even with all that work, I still really love the lipstick…lol. The color is amazing, the finish is amazing, and it mixes well with other colors. Below I’m wearing with with MAC All Fired Up in the center to punch up the color and I’ll also soon be mixing with Ruby Woo to recreate my fave ombré lip look.

I also got Talk That Talk Pro Longwear Lip Pencil which is about a shade deeper than the lipstick and looks SO much like Nightmoth Lip Pencil with the difference being in the formula (Pro Longwear is built to last longer and to me felt softer than the regular MAC Lip Pencil). Here I am wearing TTT lipstick with TTT liner below:

See how TTT and Nightmoth lip pencils look SO much alike? It’s like the Patty Duke Show!

The RiRi Hearts MAC Holiday collection will be debuting soon and the second I get the scoop, you’ll see it here :)

Did you get anything from RiRi Hearts MAC Fall? Tell me in the comments!

Hey Danielle! I bought the RiRi Woo lipstick and lipglass and Diamonds CCB. I LOVE RiRi Woo! I’m still trying to figure out Diamonds though. Lol.

    • Danielle says:

Was it easy for you to get RiRi Woo? MAC sent me Diamonds CCB and I’ve only swatched it on my hand and it seems like it’s not going to show up easily without doing a ton of work…lol.

I’m still so sad I couldn’t get one! I heard Cyber with nightmoth is very similar :)

    • Danielle says:

Awww! Cyber is a bit darker and a different texture. I think Film Noir lipstick might be a little bit closer to TTT. But Nightmoth and TTT lip pencils are soooo much alike…lol

  4. Candace says:

A great trick I learned that nix’s the patchiness is to apply Riri’s Nude lipstick as a thin layer under Talk that talk. I promise you it still goes on pigmented but so creamy and smooth and it still sets. All without changing the beautiful color. If you don’t have nude you can try Revlon’s matte lipstick in Cocoa Craving – Same effect! I’m loving it :)

  5. Joanna says:

Now that I have learnt the dupe for the TTT l/l I’m going to buy it and feel less as bad. As for the TTT l/s Flim noir it is. Thank you Danielle!!! xx

  6. Tunisia says:

How long after we’re you able to find TTT? And do you think MAC will restock it? (They did with Heaux and Riri boy, I kept checking the site after it sold out and was able to buy it a week or two later after it’s initial release)

    • Danielle says:

I was sadly on the MAC site the second it went on sale and it took like almost 2 hours to check out and I only got the one TTT. I was up when it went on sale on Macys and Nordstrom and was able to snag the rest of what I wanted.

I’m not sure if MAC will restock—sorry :(
