Welcome back to another TSABD Edit!

So I told you in my Could I Have a Curated Makeup Stash? post that the other day I was looking at the packaging of one of my favorite eyeshadow palettes like “what in the 12 year old schoolgirl mess is this?” lol. I’m at the age where I’m at the older end of “young” and at the youngest end of “old” (those words are in quotes for a reason) and while I’m still very much into makeup, my taste in brands are slightly shifting. I don’t want a big pink eyeshadow palette with hearts and glitter all over it no matter how much I love the shadows inside. I’d like to start having more cohesion and sleekness about my personal makeup stash. I have that with some of the brands abundant in my stash like NARS, Dior, and Sleek MakeUP, but I really want my stash to get into formation. Thankfully the new Victoria Beckham x Estee Lauder (as well as the classic Estee Lauder line) are going to help me get there.

Estee Lauder invited me to a special intimate press launch party where Victoria Beckham herself talked us through her line, her love of makeup, AND we found out she’s also a makeup collector, too. She chatted with us about how the same way she prepares for a new fashion collection is the same way she prepared for this (and the previous) makeup collaboration with Estee Lauder. You can totally tell this is a fashion-inspired makeup collection. The ease with which one can create a look with the items in this collection is the epitome of effortless fashion girl cool. Many of the flyest fashionistas on the street style set aren’t wearing loads of super perfect makeup—nope. They’re taking black liner and rimming their bottom waterline and then smudging it out or they’re wearing a bold red lip or strong manicured brows (not to be confused with the Instagram brow) or they’re taking a sooty black shadow and pressing it on their lids for a daytime smoky eye and then dabbing glitter on top to take it to evening. Or if you’re a mogul about your business, you want high quality makeup that allows you to create a pulled together look in no time flat. This is what I LOOOOOVE about this Victoria Beckham x Estee Lauder collection. It’s chic and sophisticated and one does not need a Ph.D in makeup artisty to nail it.

I’m also thinking I may need to pay even more attention to Estee Lauder launches. I’ve been a fan of the brand for a few years now from when they had Tom Pecheux as Creative Director. Not going to lie, I had always thought of EL as my grandmother’s brand but I started to take notice of the brand more once Tom Pecheux hit the scene years ago. I also had a short stint working at an Estee Lauder counter when I first started blogging full time and needed some extra coin. Back then I really got to know the line: the skincare, the makeup, how much SCIENCE and research goes into the products. I didn’t have a good foundation match back then and was pissed because I REALLY wanted to try all the foundations I was using on my clients (they had a good range back then with shades that were darker than me, but nothing that matched both my skin tone and undertone). But a few years after I left, they added even more shades and I can wear 7N1 Deep Amber. I went to my local counter and bought Double Wear Nude, The Illuminator, Double Wear Eye Pencil and then also ordered Victoria Beckham x Estee Lauder Highlighter in Modern Mercury and Eye Ink in Black Myrrh. All the other items from this post were given to me at the press party.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Nude

estee lauder double wear nude 71 deep amber

Official description:

Real-skin flawless. Real protection. 24-hour staying power.
Waterlight. This fluid, long-wear makeup feels like you have nothing on. Moves comfortably with your skin. Looks fresh, natural, healthy, even-toned.

With SPF 30 and anti-oxidants, it’s your invisible defense against environmental damage from UV rays and pollution.

Instantly and continuously hydrates with a moisture complex of red fruit extracts, including watermelon, lychee seed and apple.

In shades for all skintones.

I initially got a sample of the classic Double Wear—the rep at the counter matched me to 6C1 Rich Cocoa but 7N1 Deep Amber was a better match. But while I was demoing foundations on my Instastory (I wanted to try a different foundation formula for fall and figured I’d shop my stash for one, so I tried on a bunch of shades—if this sounds fun to you, you need to make sure you’re following me on Instagram and checking out my Instastories), I decided I wanted to try the Double Wear Nude because it seemed that it might be close to Make Up For Ever’s original Face and Body foundation (they’ve since upgraded it and me no likey—plus there’s no good shade match for me) and one of my favorite makeup artists, mua_fifi on IG, said I’d love it and it’s almost like my old Make Up For Ever fave. I was sold!

It doesn’t quite have that beautiful satin finish that the original MUFE Face & Body had, but it’s close enough! This line doesn’t have as many shades as the original Double Wear, but since this is a more lightweight formula, it’s possible that the fewer shades match more people (we talked about this in my Fenty foundation review). 7N1 Deep Amber in Double Wear Nude looks slightly darker than 7N1 Deep Amber in the original Double Wear (this could be due to the water content in the Nude). Once the Double Wear Nude dries down, it doesn’t look as dark.

While the regular Double Wear has a matte finish and provides medium to full coverage, Double Wear Nude has a real-skin, satin finish and light to medium coverage. It evened out my skin, but I have a huge hyperpigmentation mark on my forehead that Double Wear Nude doesn’t completely cover so I’d need concealer for that area (but it doesn’t really bother me much so I’d just leave it—Double Wear Nude isn’t really the foundation you go for when you’re looking for a “BEAT” look).

victoria beckham x estee lauder products

It has great staying power—they claim 24-hour but ain’t nobody testing foundation for that long…lol. At least not me with my mostly white bedroom…lol. But I have oily skin and tested this during 80 degree weather in an environment where there was no air conditioning—it lasted through all that…lol. (Quick note on oily–or dry—skin and foundation: not only do you want to make sure your foundation is the right formula for your skin type AND the season/weather for your locale, but you also want to make sure you’re using the right moisturizer, too—read more on this here)

Bottom line: If you like a skin-like foundation finish with light to medium coverage and can find a shade match, head to an Estee Lauder counter and get a sample to try. They give you a free 10-day sample at any counter so you can luxuriate and test it out in different settings.

P.S. In case you were wondering, the regular Double Wear also wears well but of course differs from Double Wear Nude in finish and coverage. See it demoed in a video below.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Infinite Waterproof Eyeliner in Kohl Noir

victoria beckham x estee lauder matte liner double wear infinite liner

Official description:

Draw the line.
Crave-worthy color that lasts all day and night—up to 24 hours.

From precision definition to a sultry smolder, the possibilities are endless. Includes a soft smudge tip and built-in sharpener. For a smudged effect, blend before it sets.

Waterproof. Smudge-, sweat-, heat- and humidity-resistant.

I picked this up because I wanted a super jet-black liner that is waterproof and stays in place. I have that in Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Pencil in Perversion, but I wanted to try a brand that looks more “grown-up.” I do prefer the Double Wear Infinite Waterproof Eyeliner packaging more—way more chic and more “grown woman” than the Urban Decay 24/7, but I do like the way Perversion looks more. Perversion is still darker than the Double Wear. Double Wear Infinite Waterproof Eyeliner performs well and stays in place, if it were just as dark as Perversion I’d be even more in love.

I do like that there is a smudger on the opposite end as well as a sharpener.

Victoria Beckham x Estee Lauder Eye Ink Matte Liner

Official description:

Super matte liquid liner lends a modern edge to the classically lined eye.
Skinny felt tip allows for sharp, foolproof precision and a dramatic graphic effect.

Intense pigments create a non-stop line that goes from inner corner to outer tip.

I really loved the applicator on this liner—it made application smooth and easy. It’s also cool that it has a matte finish as a lot of liquid liners do have some shine to their finish. While I loved this liner and it performs well, I’m personally not moved to spend $45 on a liquid liner (although the packaging is really chic) when I can find a Wet N’ Wild liner that works just the same for a fraction of the price. It’s also hard to justify the purchase of a liquid liner even with amazing packaging because it’s not like a powder or a highlighter—it will eventually dry out and even if it doesn’t, this is something that goes near your eyes so you won’t want to use it after a while anyway.

Bottom line: This is the only item from the collection that while I really loved the performance and the product itself, I’ll have to give it a strong pass. Liquid liner isn’t special enough to warrant the price tag.

Estee Lauder The Illuminator Radiant Perfecting Primer + Finisher

estee lauder the illuminator

Official description:

This luminous face primer hydrates, smooths and brightens skin for a dewy, healthy looking finish.
Use it to prep your face for makeup, then refresh throughout the day to glow on the go.

HOW TO USE
Apply over clean, moisturized skin. Smooth evenly all over face. Wear alone, underneath makeup or to touch up and highlight as desired.

To be honest, I bought this on a whim because as I was waiting patiently to be helped at the counter, I was left idle to look at and touch stuff…lol. Now normally I would be a candidate for a mattifying primer with my oily skin, but since I can play around more with products with dewy finishes in the colder months, I decided to give it a whirl. I was confirmed that my impulse purchase was going to be amazing when the counter rep told me this can be used as a primer under your foundation AND can be used over it to touch up.

Now the reason why I wouldn’t normally pick up a radiant or illuminating primer is because, let’s face it: even if I use a matte finish foundation, with my oily skin that mess is going to be radiant in a few hours anyway especially when it’s warmer out. But I liked this one and will like it even more as the weather cools down. I really like this over my makeup (but wouldn’t likely use it to touch-up more than like once or twice—if you have normal to drier skin you might like this even more for more frequent touch-ups) and it works great to highlight in certain areas. I also loved it as a primer underneath my makeup. I don’t always use primer (unless I know I need my makeup to last) and I wouldn’t use this one to ensure all day wear (I like my Mally Beauty Perfect Prep Primer for that), but I like this for when I want a radiant glow.

Bottom line: I’d say this primer leans more for those with normal to dry skin, although if you have oily skin you might like this in the colder months (assuming you get a real winter where you are). I love how multifunctional it is, but this isn’t a product for everyone (EL also sells a mattifying primer and a smoothing primer). As always, try before you buy.

Victoria Beckham x Estee Lauder Eye Ink Shadow in Black Myrrh

victoria beckham x estee lauder eye ink in black myrrh

Official description:

Create intense, sooty black eyes.
This pressed gel-creme formula is an innovation in eyeshadow. The dense pigment delivers a deep, rich, almost-black shade with a touch of pearl, for a sexy-wet look and feel.

O-M-G I LOOOOVE this shadow! It’s not often you can create depth in an eye look with just ONE product but you can get a super sultry smoky eye with just this one product AND using just your fingers to apply it.

Of course you can use a brush to apply Victoria Beckham x Estee Lauder Eye Ink Shadow in Black Myrrh, but if you go that route, make sure you use a brush with densely packed bristles and you’ll want to pat the brush on the eye and layer as opposed to swirling it around and blending. You’ll get more of the pigment and more depth that way. But I love this because it makes getting a smoky eye super easy and this shade works on all skin tones and eye colors.

Now sure, you can probably find a shadow that looks like this at a much lower price point, but the sleek packaging and the quality is what helps drive up the price point. I’m not mad at this at all. I actually bought this one with my own money. If there was also a navy blue shadow like this, I would have bought that one, too…lol.

It appears as if the shadow inside can come out of the compact, but I’ve never seen refillable eyeshadow inserts at EL and these pans are pretty big so I’m not sure many other brands out there sell shadow pans this large if you were thinking about refilling the compact.

The shadow has great staying power, but I did find that it lasts even longer with an eyeshadow primer so make sure you use one underneath if you want to ensure all day wear.

Bottom line: Under most circumstances, I couldn’t condone a $45 single eyeshadow purchase even for myself, but the allure here is in the quality of the shadow and the sleek compact. You have to be a certain kind of makeup consumer to buy something like this—after all, there are many multi-shadow palettes out there where you can get like 12 or 30 or even more shadows for around or even less than the $45 price tag of this Victoria Beckham x Estee Lauder Eye Ink Shadow. But if you ARE that certain type of makeup consumer, I think you’ll like this.

Victoria Beckham x Estee Lauder Eye Matte Duo in Bleu Electrique/Nude

victoria beckham x estee lauder eye matte duo bleu electrique nude

Now these do require more effort than the Eye Ink. The Nude shade is a little easier to work with than the Bleu Electrique and you really have to love the duos for this to make sense of course. There are three different Eye Mattes to signify a look for three distinct cities: New York, Miami, and Paris. This one is the Miami look.

You definitely want to use a primer with these. And when using these shades, use an eyeshadow brush with densely packed bristles and pat and layer to get the most pigment vs swirling it on. The densely packed bristles will pick up more product and help you get a more “intense” look (I say intense although it’s not INTENSE intense—more that a fluffier brush won’t pick up the shadow as much and you won’t get a very pigmented look).

Bottom line: These can be very passable if you’re not feeling the color combos. I personally prefer the Eye Ink.

Victoria Beckham x Estee Lauder Skin Perfecting Powder

victoria beckham x estee lauder skin perfecting powder

Official description:

Pore-blurring, translucent sheer powder creates an airbrushed finish. Sets makeup and minimizes the look of imperfections. Luxuriously soft, lightweight and comfortable.

In one universal shade perfect for all skin tones. The soft yellow undertone brightens and awakens all complexions.

I really liked this powder—I was side-eyeing initially because it is a soft yellow, but it’s translucent and didn’t look ashy on me. This is going to blur and give skin a somewhat airbrushed finish, but it’s also not going to work miracles…lol. It’s not very mattifying so keep that in mind if you have oily skin.

Also keep in mind that you could stain the powder with your foundation (obviously it’ll show up more the more your foundation shade contrasts with the powder color). I have a slight swipe of dark brown on mine. Not a huge deal breaker unless you are VERY particular about those type of things. I’m absolutely in love with the compact it comes in (and in case I haven’t already mentioned this a gazillion times already, I LOVE all of the packaging of every single product in this post).

Bottom line: This is also passable (yes, even though I actually like the product). The draw here is mostly the beautiful packaging which also helps to get it to its hefty price tag. This is again something that is for a very certain kind of makeup consumer. Me personally, I would have bought this with my own money as well. The packaging is so beautiful and I like the product.

Victoria Beckham x Estee Lauder Highlighter

victoria beckham x estee lauder highlighter molten metal

Official description:

This highlighter can be worn as a strobing accent on the cheekbones and with or without bronzer to create that sweaty-skin look.

I LOVE Estee Lauder highlighters—I’ve reviewed a bunch of them which you can check out via my Estee Lauder tag. What I loved about a lot of the previous highlighters was that they gave a glow without a ton of shimmer which is what I was expecting with this one. The Victoria Beckham x Estee Lauder Highlighter is a beautiful rose-gold but it’s a bit too shimmery for me. Emphasis on FOR ME. It’s not a bad highlighter at all—not even bad in the least bit. But if I’m personally going to have a highlighter in such gorgeous packaging and pay $75 for it, it needs to be something that I REALLY love. And it’s not glitter ball shimmery either—just not what I would prefer in a highlighter like this. If you prefer the shimmer, go in and let have.

Bottom line: I feel like I can say with confidence that no one who reads this blog regularly actually needs another highlighter (haha), but if you love the shimmer and the rose-gold color AND have a need for chic, collector packaging, you might love this.

Price and where to buy: $75 at esteelauder.com and select Estee Lauder counters. Also at Bloomingdale’s and other fine department stores.

Molten metal shine. This liquid eyeshadow creates a brilliant vinyl-like finish, even after it is dry. Sparkling pearls look like flecks of gold for a liquid-metal effect.

This best seller is now available as a shadow pot for easy use with a brush or fingertips.
12-hour wear
Non-creasing
Non-flaking
Sweat and humidity resistant

I absolutely LOVE the Victoria Beckham x Estee Lauder Eye Foil in Blonde Gold. It comes in this cute pot with a chic gold top and you can use your fingers or a brush to apply it. Like the Eye Ink, you do not need superior makeup skills to apply this. Actually, you can have ZERO makeup skills and still be able to rock this effortlessly. You can wear it on your bare lid, but where this really comes to life is when you have a shadow underneath and use this as a top coat of sorts. It’s such a beautiful effect on the eyes and perfect for times when you’re going out after work and want to jazz things up a bit or you know, whenever you want.

This isn’t a look everyone will love of course, but I really like it. To me it feels like grown-up FASHION glitter.

Bottom line: Hey, I love this stuff: it looks amazing, requires no makeup skill to pull off, and it performs well. I would love this in a darker shade as well.

Price and where to buy: $40 at esteelauder.com and select Estee Lauder counters. Also at Bloomingdale’s and other fine department stores.

    Hi Danielle,

Thank you so much for this thorough review. I’ve been scouring the internet searching for feedback on the powder from someone similar in complexion to me. Also, the powder packaging is stunning and was part of the reason I wanted it. Pity though, I suppose I’ll have to admire from afar as I have dry skin but once in a while my nose will shine. So, because of your review, I get to keep my $$$$. Very much appreciated.
