So the NARS Climax Mascara. I’m sure you’ve seen it everywhere: the latest volumizing mascara from the makeup artist brand with the sexy red packaging that promises clump-resistant, flake-resistant, and smudge-resistant gorgeous lashes. But do you NEED it?
If you follow me on Instagram and watch my stories, you might have heard me say that I feel that most mascaras are scams. Me, myself, personally, I wouldn’t spend more than like $8-9 on a mascara (although there are a few exceptions) because you have to toss them every three months (or hello eye cooties) and with a proper flick of the wrist, you might be able to get the fanned-out luscious lashes you’re after without breaking the bank.
I received the NARS Climax Mascara in a recent PR package. I’m a longtime NARS fan (see my receipts here)—my very first Sephora purchase EVER back in like 2001 was a NARS eyeshadow duo and Outlaw Blush. Over my makeup years, I’ve owned just about every brightly colored NARS blush from Taos to Torrid to Exhibit A and a number of limited edition ones. I’m a fan of the sleek packaging and the highly pigmented makeup.
But this mascara? She’s just alright.

The packaging is gorgeous (although I’m wondering why the red given the brand’s affinity for black packaging, but I’m sure there’s a story behind that) and the brush is great for getting at every corner of your lashes. The formula is nice and wet (but not too wet) like I like, but I wasn’t wowed by it especially not at $24. I’ll show you a video demo below so you can see what I mean.

I’d save that $24 and put $6 more with it and get a NARS Blush. Yes, I know blush is not mascara, but go to the drugstore and get a mascara and then go to NARS to get a blush…lol.
