Contemplating the Second Big Chop

twa

Never mind the fact that I just got ten pounds of weave just last night (mama’s leaving for Trinidad on Monday—heyyyyy), but I’ve been having this itch to do a second big chop. In fact if you follow me on Pinterest (which you totally should), you’ll see that I was pinning TWA pics like cray yesterday. With the shaved side growing in and me having to “cover” it because it’s SOOOOO not a style, I’ve grown a bit over it and instead want to give the BC a go once again.

Except the second time around, instead of doing a wash and go all the time like I did last time, I’m gonna challenge myself to try out more styles—play with texture, do a side part, play with shapes—because there’s just so much fun in having short hair. I’m thinking about leaving more hair on the top and have it gradually tapered—but not too dramatic where I’m having 50 million different lengths on my head, ya know? I will also be hitting the salon more often because girl, I need stuff I can easily just touch-up throughout the week quickly because out of like 24 hours in a day, I use up like 28.

I’m excited—this is of course a few weeks off from when I actually plan to do it, but I think I finally figured out what I want to do with my hair (remember when I was like all out of ideas?).

And this time around I promise to be much better to my hair—I’ve put her through a lot and she clung for dear life (sometimes more in some places on my head than others smh).

Stay tuned!

Anyone here do a second big chop? Tell me all about it in the comments!

You totally should! All your hairstyles are the bomb but I really love your natural hair on you. Plus a tapered cut is sooo in style right now, and I’m secretly wanting to get one as well.

Ever since I saw Chrisette Michele in concert this weekend, I have been considering cutting my hair again as well.

Yup BC 2 right after the birth of my son (7 yrs ago). Big mistake as my hair texture had changed right after delivery and so I ended up hating it BUT been thinking about it again. Just can’t handle the awkward stage.

I’ve been natural for almost a year yet I decided not to do the BC primarily because I didn’t want to be miserable for months and months. My hair was already medium length with tapered sides so my stylist used perm rods for that curly look and nature did the rest.

go for it!! this short cut I have now was my third big chop and I don’t think I’ll be growing it back for a looong time!

I think I might, one day. I transitioned for 13 months and always see big chops and wish I had just chopped it so I could experience and play with the short hair. Lol ????

      Your hair is so versatile!

Yep! It took a second BC for going natural to stick for me, lol. The first time I was over it after 6-9 months, but I was over being relaxed again in less time than that, I think. I went in my bathroom and lopped it off myself and I haven’t looked back!

I’ve done three so far. I think I want a tapered hair cut now with my natural hair. I’m so over wearing a headband.

I swear you’re reading my mind!!! I’ve been contemplating doing a second big chop. My hair is breaking so bad but I’m afraid to BC because I’m afraid it won’t look good on me. When I BC’d the first time the length was like the woman in the upper right corner but if I big chop now I’ll be practically bald. Part of me says its just hair but I’m also not looking forward to peoples’ looks and questions.

Ugh—I know exactly what you mean. I’m the same way but actually found people’s reactions to be comical when I did my first big chop…lol. How bad is the breakage and where is it? Sometimes it’s just better (and looks better) to just get a new style than to “work through” the breakage. Have you ever had short hair before?

Yeah, I’ve had short haircuts with a perm twice plus cutting my hair to go natural so I should be used to this by now lol. I’m going to the salon sunday to at least get the ends trimmed off and wetset it unless I get the heart to cut it all off again.

You have a pretty face you can totally rock any look!
I noticed you went to Fashion ( NYC Weave studio) to get your hair done, are you going to write a blog about that? If not how was it? Does your weave lay flat? I keep hearing she does good work at a really great price.

      Hey, Ricki!!!

      Thank you!!!

And yes, Fashion did an amazing job—she’s so fast and friendly and yup–my weave is laid so flat it’s in my skull…lol.

I had to run to a dinner right after she did my hair and took a bunch of pics in the restaurant bathroom but need to go through the best ones to eventually post. Then I flew to Cincinnati for a press trip on Thursday so I’ve been short on time. I’ll have tons of pics when I’m in T&T so stay tuned :)

Lateesha when I got to the medium stage after my BC I felt like I should’ve transitioned longer but now I’m like I’ve bc’d and shaved one side, I can do anything…lol. So funny because I used to be the girl afraid of trims. Smh

Girl, I remember that post you did about your Carnival outfit. The island better watch out…try not to hurt them too much!
Are you going to post your pictures here?

The time is right – Spring is around the corner when we all want something different, you will have funky, low maintenance hair for the summer and you ain’t scared! I’ve done lots of big chops. For some reason, I tend to cut off my hair in the Fall and Winter when you need hair to cover your scalp (lol). I’m watching Ms. Lapita Nyongo on the NAACP Awards right now and her low fade cut is Everything…..
