My Sleekest and Biggest Bun EVER + A Moto Jacket Outfit for Fall

I like big BUNS and I cannot lie.

I don’t want none unless it’s got BUNS, hun.

OK, now that I got that out of my system, we can proceed with this blog post.

So I took my weave out and wanted to try something different with my hair. I can thank Pinterest for steering me towards the idea of having a big bun be my next hairstyle (gosh, I LOOOOVE Pinterest—are you following me there? Go follow me!). I bought two packs of braiding hair (the $1.99/a pack kind you find at any beauty supply store) and electric slided over to Hairstyling by Joseph where my longtime boo and hairstylist superstar Gabrielle Corney gave me the bun of all buns inspired by Teyonah Parris’ bun she wore at the ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood luncheon last year.

And the secret weapon to this bun besides Gabi’s magic hands? Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shaping Cream ($18 at ULTA–there’s a generic version for $6.99 at Sally Beauty Supply—I haven’t tried it though). It’s a flexible texture cream that dries down matte and laid ALL my hairs—edges, baby hairs, adult hairs, my kitchen, my everything was LAIDT DOWNT. G-L-O-R-Y.

I had the bun in for a week and used a satin braid bonnet (like this one from Sally Beauty) to preserve the style when I sleep. I sleep pretty wildly and my bun stayed intact quite nicely thanks to the Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Shaping Cream for keeping my hair slick and the satin braid bonnet for keeping the bun in place. My other must-have: Luxe Therapy’s Scalp Soother. I could use the Scalp Soother to scratch my scalp without messing up my hairstyle. It’s also a LIFESAVER when I’m wearing weave and works amazingly for braids, too. AND it was created by a Black woman and will be sold at Sally Beauty Supply soon. Until then, get it here for $9.99.

Naturally I had to celebrate my bun (I’m gonna call her Bonita Applebun) and give her an outfit to go with all her bunniness.

This will make getting an appointment even harder for me (she does celebs, too), but I LOVE my stylist and think everyone should be graced with her magical hands, if you’re looking for a FABULOUS hairstylist in NYC, you can find out how to make an appointment with Gabrielle Corney here. She’s amazing with weaves, natural hair, relaxers, color, and she’s very cognizant about hair health. She’s just so dope.

I love this whole look! For my bun I use eco styler gel( the one with aloe Vera in it) and I tie my hair down with a scarf. That does the trick for me.
