Why Your Skin Sags and What to Do About It (Collagen Peptides)

This post is sponsored by Olay. As always, all opinions are 100% my own.

Collagen is the protein in the skin that gives it that taut, SNATCHED appearance. As we age our collagen production tends to dwindle (it actually starts to slow from age 20), and things like cumulative sun exposure and smoking also add to accelerating collagen breakdown.

If you’re noticing that your skin isn’t looking quite as firm as it used to, there are a number of things you can do.

You have to take a holistic approach when it comes to bettering your skin. Making sure you eat a balanced diet, limiting alcoholic beverages, avoiding smoking, and exercising regularly won’t clear and firm your skin overnight, but it does lead to an overall healthier disposition.

Then of course you have to take action in your skincare routine. Consistency is the most readily available skincare “product” that too many people fail to utilize…lol. By properly taking care of your skin daily (and if you have no clue how, click here), you are already putting in that work. But of course you want to use products that align with your skincare goals.

Enter Olay Collagen Peptide24. I’ve been testing out the Olay Collagen Peptide24 hydrating moisturizer over the past two months and it definitely checks off on my list of things I personally look for in a moisturizer: hydrating but not heavy, luxuriously creamy texture (hey, I can be a stickler for texture), and at a reasonable price point. It also contains Olay’s blend of ingredients that contain smaller molecules so that the collagen can get to where it needs to go under the skin. This is unlike some of the typical collagen creams that have molecules that are so big that they just sit on the skin’s outer layer.

Yes, skincare is an investment, but that doesn’t mean you have to spend more for products that work. Olay Collagen Peptide24 Hydrating Moisturizer hydrates better than some of the bougie $400 moisturizers out there, but Peptide24 is priced under $40.

We talked about collagen and what that does for the skin, but what about the peptide part?

To put it in easy-to-understand language, think of peptides as the hypeman of collagen. Peptides essentially hype up your skin cells and encourage them to produce collagen. Which then means firmer-looking skin with consistent use.

Olay Collagen Peptide24 also contains fan-fave vitamin B3 aka niacinamide. I’ve been hearing rumblings of some people saying niacinamide is over-hyped because we heard so much about it in 2020. But folks, niacinamide has been around for DECADES and has RECEIPTS of its efficacy on skin. It helps with a number of skin issues—find out more about it here.

But if you thought you could just slap this moisturizer on and BOOM you have firmer skin, you thought WRONG, boo…lol.

As with anything, you have to have a proper skincare routine. Check out this chart below to help you understand where things go in your routine. You can use Olay Collagen Peptide24 day and night. But here’s the thing and there’s no negotiations about this: during the day you MUST also wear sunscreen. I’ve tried tons of sunscreens that you can layer on top of your moisturizer—check them out here.

In addition to following a good skincare routine that meets your needs, it’s also important to see the pros to ensure your skin is being treated well. I’m no stranger to popping into my dermatologist’s office, but of course a proper skincare routine that includes a good moisturizer like Olay Collagen Peptide24 and sunscreen all come together to keep my skin looking its best.

Thanks again to Olay for partnering with me on this post!
