My WLNY TV “The Couch” Glam Team Takeover Segment!

on the couch

So I’m not even sure how I’m still up after going to sleep around 12:30 A.M. and waking up at 2:45 A.M. to get ready to be at CBS Studios at 5 A.M. to prep for my TV appearance this morning on WLNY TV‘s “The Couch” as part of this week’s special Glam Team Takeover for Hurricane Sandy survivors. But I might as well ride this strange wave of energy and get this post out, right?

For what appears as an eight minute TV segment actually takes WEEKS of planning and prepping. I emailed several of my brand contacts to pull clothing, accessories, and shoe options. My makeover candidate was a super sweet and sexy size 14 so I hit some of NYC’s hottest places for plus clothing: H&M+ at the 34th and 7th location (great for casual basics and cute statement pieces), the Lane Bryant showroom where the super awesome Megan let me pull some AMAZING pieces last minute, and the Monif C showroom where sexiness is all up and through the place, but because my team and I decided we wanted our makeover candidate to have a super glam look, I contacted the Tadashi Shoji showroom in LA where the fab Jenny worked with angels it seemed to make sure the dress options I selected from their website got to me in time yesterday for me to take to our final fitting. Tadashi makes some AHmazing dresses that many celebs wear for red carpet appearances so I knew it would be perfect for this situation—a little glitz after losing so much.

It’s great that there are so many more options for Plus (which I ALWAYS have to stress is a SIZE not a shape)—sometimes you can’t do one-stop shopping, but I mean, who does?

And can we have a moment of silence for the AWESOME team at Spanx who came to the rescue with an overnight delivery of ASSETS Red Hot Label Sleek Slimmers Tank Slip and Slim Cognito Shape Suit? I mean, they seriously laid the foundation for today’s look!

Now with all the back and forth traveling for fittings, hitting the showrooms, and meeting with the glam team, I had no idea I’d also be learning life lessons. Liz, the fabulous woman we made over, is SO inspiring—and I know I keep using that word in the video, but it’s so true. Her faith and her positive attitude after losing pretty much everything in Hurricane Sandy is something we should ALL take note of. She actually described the hurricane as somewhat of a blessing because she and her new husband (who I also got to meet and is super awesome as well) were able to start fresh and renew. You can totally tell they adore each other within 30 seconds of seeing them together.

So now for the look :)

As you can see from the video, Gabrielle Corney did a fabulous job giving her a layered cut that gave her more volume and framed her gorgeous face. She gave her the cut last week and it’s such a great cut that every time I went to see Liz after it, it looked better and better every time. AND Liz said it made styling her hair so much easier. Juliet Fisher was on hand (she’s worked on Gabrielle Union and MAAAANY of our fave celebs) today to style Liz’s hair in the gorgeous look you see in the video. Mila Thomas created her makeup look using Make Up For Ever HD, 5 Camouflage Cream Palette, HD Blush, Aqua Cream in Black and she mixed some of the brand’s peach shades to create her cheek color, and finished it off with Lab Shine Lip Gloss. I loved how gorgeous yet natural Liz looked!

For her nails we definitely wanted to add a little kick, so the fab Diva Does Makeup used Kiss Nail Dress, easy to apply and easy to remove nail art that lasts up to 7 days, in a funky leopard print. Then because we wanted her skin to have a nice glow, we used skincare products from Ziaja Skincare.

We added some additional flavor to the outfit with earrings and a cocktail ring from H&M and a pop of color from her JustFab shoes.
I’d also like to thank all the sponsors for giving Liz such awesome gifts at the end of the segment so she can continue to replenish her wardrobe. I thought it would be great for her to have the items we used to keep up her look, so she went home with a gift bag (supplied by Lady Foot Locker) with prizes worth almost $1,000 including:

*An H&M gift card
*A gift card to JustFab.com (plus she got to keep the gorgeous “Rouen” pumps she wore with her outfit today)
*Hair products from TIGI Bed Head
*All the makeup used on her look from Make Up For Ever
*A gift bag from Ziaja Skincare
*A gift bag from Kiss Nails including the new At-Home Gel Manicure System (complete with LED lamp, gel polishes, Kiss lashes, Nail Dress, and imPRESS nails)
