Folks, I’ll be rounding up some of the lightweight, ideal for summer foundations I’ve come across for dark skin like mine. Of course all of these will also be available in lighter shades, but my focus here is on darker skin because, well, in case you haven’t noticed, my skin is dark plus I find that in a BB and CC cream world, it can be hard out here for the chocolate hued…lol. There’s only currently a handful of BB and CCs available in very deep shades so I thought it’d be beneficial to showcase light foundation options to try for deep skin. Because it is summer and not everyone can handle makeup dripping down their face…lol.

Keep the Light Summer Foundations for Dark Skin (boy is that a mouthful…lol) tag bookmarked for future updates :)

First up: Sleek MakeUP Bare Skin Foundation.

Official description:

This unique super-light foundation gives skin a barely-there no makeup feel, whilst delivering a beautifully even and natural flawless finish.

*Provides light to medium, buildable coverage

*Conceals blemishes and imperfections

*Innovative formula evens out skin tone

*Advanced moisturising properties help to keep skin nourished

*Light base feels weightless, allowing skin to breathe

*Instantly enhances and illuminates skin

Now there is one thing to really note about light foundations especially those not so advanced with makeup: the coverage is light. (lol) This means that it’ll give a barely-there look but they tend to work best on those who don’t need a ton of coverage because they have decent skin. It’ll cover slight discoloration but for things like very dark under eye circles or dark spots—you’ll likely also need a concealer or maybe even just a foundation with a little more coverage.

I found that Bare Skin really does give a ‘bare skin’ feel. I have decent skin with some dark spots along my chin and darkness under my eyes and Bare Skin covered them slightly and made my skin overall look more even while still looking like I had nothing on. It’d be a great everyday foundation if I wore makeup everyday (I work from home and only put on makeup when I’m either testing it for reviews or if I have appointments) or nice if you’re running errands and want a little coverage.

Sleek MakeUP sent over the three deepest shades:
Henna 385: brown with yellow undertones
Hot Chocolate 386: deep brown with neutral undertones
Cannelle 404: brown with pinky undertones

Though not an exact match, Hot Chocolate was the deepest shade closest to my skin. You can see what shades I wear in other foundations here.

Wear is pretty decent—it required no more than my regular touching up to blot my oily skin and endured even one of the hottest days this week. Below is me wearing it after running errands for a few hours in the heat. I’m not wearing concealer in this pic because I was testing the foundation without it, but I sure can use some…lol. I set with powder (I wanna say it was one of the Sleek MakeUP Translucent Powders which I’ll be reviewing soon but I can’t remember smh).

Bottom line: If you fit into one of the 12 shades (try and search for swatches of the other shades if you live in a country like the U.S. that doesn’t sell Sleek MakeUP in store) and looking for something lightweight and that won’t break the budget, you’ll want to be all over this. But be honest with yourself about how much coverage you’ll need and consider something with more coverage if you need it. Check out my foundation posts for more info :)
