TSABD Edit: Fenty Beauty Moroccan Spice Collection on Dark Skin (Palette, Eye Primer, Liner)

Read ALL about my review process including how I take swatches, photos, and more here.

My favorite beauty industry disrupter Fenty Beauty recently had a pop-up shop in Penn Plaza and sectioned out some time for a press preview which yours truly had the honor of being invited to. It was AMAZING because not only did I get to see my other blogger boos and meet new ones I’ll be adding to my stalk list on Instagram, but I got to meet the Fenty Beauty team including the people who run their social media. It was great to actually tell them in person the same things I mentioned in my recent Ode to Fenty Beauty Killing the Beauty Marketing Game post.

I was gifted the newest eye makeup items which will all be launching on July 6th at FentyBeauty.com, Sephora, Sephora inside JCPenney, and Harvey Nichols in the UK. I got a chance to test them out and play around with them and here are my thoughts.

P.S. You can see the Fenty Beauty Moroccan Spice Eyeshadow Palette in action on my Youtube channel. I did a look using only the palette and a few other new Fenty items. Make sure you check it out on my channel here.

Fenty Beauty Moroccan Spice Eyeshadow Palette

So before I even get started because I’ve been getting this question pretty often, I will be doing a post comparing this palette to the Urban Decay Born to Run palette that I reviewed here, as well as the Makeup Shayla x Colourpop Perception Palette reviewed here. So stay tuned for that—make sure you subscribe to the blog so you don’t miss it.

According to the press release, this palette brings together Rihanna’s favorite shades, and the shimmer turquoise shade “Evil Genie” was inspired by the eyeshadow she wore in the “Wild Thoughts” music video. What I like about this eyeshadow palette is that all the shades work well on all skin tones (as someone with deeper skin, I HATE when I get a palette and there’s like a section of shades that are too light and chalky for me) and you can also create an array of looks from a sultry smoky eye, a beautiful summery turquoise eye, a vibrant sunset eye, and more. I also like that every individual shadow shade can be paired with any of the shadow shades in the palette. You’ll get a lot of color combinations and looks out of the 16 shades. There’s an array of finishes as well: matte, satin, pearl, metallic, and shimmer.

I also LOVE the color payoff. You can go in as hard as you want with these colors or go easy with a soft wash of color.

I usually test shadows on their own without primer to see how well they last on their own, so I did that with these shadows (they fare pretty well on their own) but these really come to life and last all day without creasing with the Pro Filt’r Amplifying Eye Primer.

I love the Fenty Beauty Moroccan Spice Eyeshadow Palette and liked that I could create many looks using JUST this palette (which makes it dope for travel), but this could be more of a “fun” palette as opposed to an everyday palette, depending on your lifestyle. I work in a more creative field so I can wear this no matter what I’m doing, but if you work in a more conservative workplace, you might not get as much out of it as you would say a neutral eyeshadow palette. Yes, you can make neutral looks with this palette, but you’d be limiting yourself. I’d say this palette is great for the makeup girl who already has some eyeshadow palettes in her arsenal and is looking to add some fun colors.

Bottom line: Fenty Beauty Moroccan Spice Eyeshadow Palette is a beautiful, great quality palette that can be used to create an array of makeup looks using just this palette. I’d say it leans more on the fun side and is great for those of you who already have a number of palettes in your stash.

Price and where to buy: $59 at Sephora (plus 4% cash back when you use eBates) and FentyBeauty.com (starting July 6th)

Pro Filt’R Amplifying Eye Primer

I love that this looks exactly like a mini version of the foundation primer. Now for those of us who have been using eye primers for a looooong time, this one is a bit different. With most eye primers, you want to start applying your shadow BEFORE the primer starts to dry. With Pro Filt’r Amplifying Eye Primer, you want to apply it with the applicator wand, blend it with your fingers or a damp makeup sponge, and then give it about a minute to dry before you start applying your shadow. You can be a rebel and apply your shadow before Pro Filt’r dries if you want to, but be prepared for your shadow to possibly (and most likely) applying patchy.

I really like Pro Filt’R Amplifying Eye Primer despite having to do what feels like an extra step. I love how it intensifies the color and the applicator is pretty dope. It also works with other shadows (though I don’t own every eyeshadow formula out there but it works with the powder shadows I have).

I haven’t bought eyeshadow primer in yeaaaars because I tend to just use the Urban Decay Primer Potion or LORAC Shadow Insurance that comes with their palettes, but I would definitely switch to Pro Filt’r once the others run out and I’m in the market for more. It’s also making me wonder about the Pro Filt’r foundation primer.

Flyliner Longwear Liquid Eyeliner

So while I LOVE a good winged eye, I don’t often include them in my makeup looks. I seem to always do my makeup when I don’t have a ton of time and don’t want to risk doing something clumsy (which is almost inevitable because I am the CLUMSIEST) and then wind up with liquid liner all over my face. But this liner?!?! So let’s get into some specifics straight from the press release:

You get the color intensity of a liquid plus the glide of a gel in one long-wearing, water-resistant formula that dries fast and won’t fade or transfer until you say when (they are NOT kidding here—I washed my hands a gazillion times after swatching this and even showered TWICE and still had liner on my hand the next day…lol). It’s comfortable to hold and delivers more control with a precision point that Rihanna perfected to work with all eye shapes to create fine lines, thick flicks, and everything in between. It also has an extra-long felt tip, an exclusive Fenty Beauty innovation that allows for smooth, uninterrupted ink flow from every angle.

I’m VERY impressed with this liner. It does make it SO MUCH easier to create a cat eye and I love that it sets quickly.

Bottom line: If you’re a fan of liquid liner but also felt like you needed something way more foolproof, Flyliner Longwear Liquid Eyeliner is worth a try.

Price and where to buy: $20 at Sephora (plus 4% cash back when you use eBates) and FentyBeauty.com

There are two new eyeshadow brushes in this collection, the All-Over Eyeshadow Brush 200 and the Tapered Blending Brush 210. You can see them both in action in my Fenty Beauty Moroccan Spice video on my Youtube, but it takes me painstakingly long to review makeup brushes. I have makeup brushes that are yeaaaaaaars old and the paint on the handles have rubbed off but the bristles are still good as new so it’s hard for me to review new brushes beyond the superficial. I will say that these Fenty brushes look amazing—I love the pink even in the bristles though it will show stains much easier because it’s lighter in color. They also work well with the shadows. In my video I still had to use some of my own brushes to get into smaller spaces and because it was quicker for me to work with what I already know.

Price and where to buy: $24 each at Sephora (plus 4% cash back when you use eBates) and FentyBeauty.com (starting July 6th)
