4 Quick Ways to Up Your Eye Makeup Game

Sure, being able to blend fifteen eyeshadows in one look looks cool, but the average person just can’t mosey down to their corporate job or lunch with the ladies with all of that on. But that doesn’t mean you have to limit yourself to the same old same old when it comes to how you dress up your peepers. (ha—I said peepers)

So here’s four quick ways to add a little somethin’ somethin’ to your eye makeup…

1. A pop of color on your bottom waterline. This is so easy-peasy, it’s not even funny. All you have to do is after you’ve done your regular routine with your eyes, grab just about any non-black hue and line your bottom waterline. Deep purple and navy are great work-friendly colors and if you want your eye color stand out and dazzle, check out Eye Makeup Colors That Make Your Eye Color Pop.

Liners to try (I like waterproof for the bottom waterline): Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil, Covergirl Queen Collection Vivid Impact Liner, Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes. Or you can use any shadow as liner by using an eyeliner brush and a quick spray of water.

2. Quick smoke-out. A smoky eye does not have to be hard to do. You can totally do it. Again, once you already do your regular eye makeup routine (which is totally fine if it’s a single wash of color), grab a deep hue—doesn’t even have to be black—and either sweep it into the crease or dust it on the outer V of the eye or even apply it on the bottom waterline and smudge. Just be sure to blend so there’s no harsh lines.

3. Add some flare. If you thought you couldn’t wear false lashes during the day, think again. You can add a few individual ones (again, easy-peasy) to give you a sultry doe-eyed look. I like MAC #30 lashes, but was recently sent a complete kit of two lash trays (featuring two lengths so you can mix and match), lash adhesive, and a pair of tweezers for easy application from Lashfully that are pretty cool, too.

4. Get your brows shaped. OK–this may not qualify as “quick” depending on how much work you may need, but seriously getting your brows properly shaped makes a HUGE difference in not only how your eye makeup looks, but it can also make you look younger and more alert. I highly recommend brows with Rajni at the Aveda Natural Look Salon in Queens Center mall (ya’ll just don’t be crowding up in there when a sister needs her weekly brow fix, k?).
