How I Revive Both My Straight & Kinky Curly Wigs In Between Washes

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Pantene. All opinions are 100% mine.

So, here’s the thing you probably already know about wigs: yes, they’re bomb in a pinch, but your human hair wigs need to be maintained just like your own hair. Washed, deep conditioned, curled, and sometimes trimmed. While I tend to rotate my wigs, sometimes I need one in a quick fast hurry. But sometimes they need a bit of a revive before it’s time for a full-on shampoo—luckily, I have some not-so-secret weapons from the new Pantene Waterless Collection.

The Pantene Waterless Collection allows you to lead your busy lifestyle and stretch out your wash days by giving you even more styling options. I’m loving the Pantene Cheat Day Dry Shampoo Foam, Pantene Mist Behaving Dry Conditioner Mist, and Pantene Curl Affair Curl (Re)Shaping Cream. I’ve used all three to breathe new life into my wigs mid-week—you know, when you need to revive but it’s not time for a wash?

I’ve loved dry shampoos for their ability to soak up excess oils and prolong a blowout. Dry conditioners are also awesome because they work similarly to a dry shampoo in that they have style prolonging capabilities, but they add some moisture and shine without getting the hair wet. The combination of these two Pantene products were perfect for my Big Chop Hair Blown Straight u-part wig.

My hairstylist (Gabrielle Corney) styles it so beautifully for me, but after a very active two days, I needed to re-curl it. We weren’t at the moment where I had to wash it again, but I definitely had to give it some quick TLC. I first brushed out the curls then dispensed a bit of Pantene Cheat Day Dry Shampoo Foam to my fingertips and massaged at the roots. This helps to soak up any oils and also helped to “deactivate” the product I previously had on the hair while adding a little body. The Pro-vitamin B5 & orchid flower water in the foam work to release clumped hair. I then re-curled with my curling iron as seen in the video above and finished by spraying Pantene Mist Behaving Dry Conditioner Mist on the ends for added moisture and shine.

Another cool use you might remember from my Ghana trip back in December: I used the Pantene Cheat Day Dry Shampoo Foam on my braids. Being out in the heat and sweating while making my way around Ghana meant my braids could really use a pick-me-up. The dry shampoo foam helped to neutralize any odor and gave me a nice clean feel without compromising my style.

Pantene Curl Affair Curl (Re)Shaping Cream

Now curly wigs on the other hand? Notorious high maintenance queens. But these curly styles are worth having and therefore worth working for.

I guess I was really in for a challenge here because I had previously washed my Big Chop Hair Kinky Curl wigs, let it air dry, and then left it packed in a suitcase and forgot about it :x It was, well, you’ll see in the video.

Watch it in action below!

I first spritzed the hair with water–yes, although you can use the Pantene Curl (Re)Shaping Cream without water, I do prefer to spritz with water before adding the cream. It’s still less stress on the wig than if I were to give it a full-on wash. Next I sectioned it, and then I massaged Pantene Curl Affair Curl (Re)Shaping Cream into the section. You can instantly see the curls coming back to life (see video). Then I twisted the section and moved onto the next. Spritzing just water on my kinky curly wigs to revive them is a no-go for me because once the water dries, the curls can wind up looking dry as well. Adding the Pantene Curl Affair Curl (Re)Shaping Cream helps to retain some of that moisture also while making the curls pop again. The entire collection is also free of any drying alcohols, sulfates and parabens.
