My Style Might be Mostly Casual, But I Do Like to Dress Up

So for the most part I’m happier than a pig in mud in some boyfriend jeans, a tee, a cute jacket, and some flats (with heels on standby depending on where I’m going), but I do love dressing up every now and then when the situation calls for it. Working from home has somewhat made me SUPER casual because any time I’m not wearing my pajamas feels like I’m dressing up. But I run a style and beauty blog for goodness sake so I do have to play the part…lol.

Since losing almost 30 pounds (read how I did it here), I’ve been experimenting with my style more and will continue to play around more as I get to my goal weight. Now, listen/read closely…I am NOT saying you need to be a certain size to wear certain things. I am NOT saying that. I am saying for me, myself, personally (I’m dying because I was having lunch with the ladies from ThisThatBeauty and Felicia jokingly repeated “See me, myself, personally” while concaving her chest in an exaggerated manner to further punctuate the phrase…lol) felt more comfortable trying certain pieces at my “smaller” size. And my smaller size is really just getting back to my regular weight before a car accident and 3 1/2 years of bad freelancing habits caught up to me. There are women more than twice my size who look better in SO many pieces of clothing than I do. It’s just the way my weight distributed as I gained weight didn’t allow me to feel comfortable in some of the things that I wear now. This is just for me, myself, personally…lol. So please don’t type me your feelings projecting my thoughts about myself on yourself. I’m not coming for you. You’re fab. I’m talking about me, myself, personally.

Anyway, I’ve been gravitating toward skirts a lot lately. I always loved skirts but after leaving the corporate world I went all left field with my style and did not want ANYTHING in my wardrobe that reminded me of work clothes. Um, not that I could have worn this skirt to the office when I worked in finance…lol.

But skirts make me feel so fun and flirty and free! I particularly like midi skirts (they’re one but not the only flattering silhouette for my frame) that have a little bit of whimsy to them—either a deep split, peplum, a fun print, or really cool material. I have a cute peplum skirt coming my way from ASOS and I’m crossing my fingers it looks just as good in person as it did online. You’ll see it in an outfit post if it does…lol.

I understand what you mean completely, we all have beautiful curves but sometimes we want to showcase in the best light whether it a smooth or rocky curve lol. All my love from Nigeria Lola!!

      Hi Lola!

      Thank you!!!

We all come in such beautiful shapes and sizes and we all rock. Sometimes though when I’m trying to share a personal account of my style and why I might choose the things I do (because I’d hate to just throw outfit pics up and not have anything to say…lol) I’ve had instances where people felt offended by something I was saying about my own body. As if I was projected what I was saying on someone else when I would never do that. So I had to put that disclaimer out there…lol.

Very nice outfit! The Midi style suits you well. I love the print of the skirt. ASOS never disappoints. It’s my go to place for well fitting fashionable finds.
