OK so sometimes I photograph a product, test it out over a few weeks and then mean to post about it but then the product winds up in the abyss of products lying around the apartment until I literally trip over it and remember “DUH!” review it. SMH.

So here’s the scoop on Vichy Total Mat: it contains a combination of salicylic acid (known acne fighter) and Perlite and is a natural anti-shine ingredient enriched with “blotting paper effect” micro powders.

Initially trying it out I wasn’t sure if it alone could be both a moisturizer AND mattifier because even with my oily summer skin, I didn’t feel any moisturizing effects at all. So I asked the rep who sent it to me for clarification just to make sure I wasn’t using it wrong, but it is actually both a moisturizer and mattifier BUT you can also use it on top of your regular moisturizer. I personally couldn’t use it on its own without a moisturizer but I’m guessing if you have VERY, VERY oily skin and it’s like 90 degrees outside and humid, it would work.

But the mattifying properties? AH-mazing. It instantly mattifies the face AND leave pores looking smoother. It also does a great job of keeping you matte throughout the day (you’ll still need to touch up of course—nothing’s that perfect). You can also reapply it but because of its consistency I’d say reapplication would only be beneficial for those who don’t wear makeup otherwise I could see it interfering with a beat face.

Bottom line: This is a great product but it’s important to know who it works best for. I’m sure a good majority of you read this blog because like me, you have oily skin, and this product does what it says it will do but I say it’s best for those who don’t wear makeup if you’re going to reapply it throughout the day as I mentioned above. It also contains acne fighting ingredients which is another big win if you fit the bill.

Price and where to buy: about $25 at Drugstore.com and Walgreens
