So liquid lipsticks have been the rage lately—you know, the ones that go on like a gloss but dry matte and have amazing staying power? Brands like Stila, NYX Cosmetics, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Sleek MakeUP, and many others came in on the liquid matte game and now LA Girl Cosmetics is in the arena with LA Girl Flat Finish Pigment Gloss.

Official description:

Introducing our hottest new lip product – Matte Pigment Gloss. These 16 bold shades provide rich, intense color in a flat finish for all day wear. The long wearing formula goes on as a high pigmented liquid and dries to a flat matte finish. Leaving lips colored in gorgeous velvety perfection that last and lasts.

So here’s the thing. LA Girl has wowed me on many occasions with their products. They have products that cost as little as $5 that put some pricier products to shame. Any time they come out with something new, I buy it to review it for you guys.

I first tried LA Girl Flat Finish Pigment Gloss in Backstage, a deep berry red. It was the kind of color I normally gravitate to and the color lasted with barely any issue. I was excited to try the others but then Sophia at Lipstick Junkie Forever (she runs the coolest IG that brings you the latest news in makeup and beauty launches), snapped me on Snapchat (I’m stylenbeautydoc there) and said how sticky they were on her when she tried them out. I had only tried Backstage which didn’t give me any stickiness issues. But as soon as I picked up the other shades…BOOM. Stickiness. And not even like a little bit of stickiness. It felt like if I kept my mouth closed for too long, I’d have issues opening it again…lol.

Another thing, and this is typically true of lower end lip colors, there’s not much depth of color with these. Like the Stunner shade was a loud grape—like one dimensional. Typically a higher end lip color has other nuances to it that make it a bit harder to describe the color which then makes it easier to wear but these were almost like shades right out of the crayon box. I’m also not keen on the brush—it makes application a little messy and I found that either using my fingers to blend the color in or a lip brush gave me better control.

{I took these swatch pics a while ago so I don’t remember everything I’m wearing, but I definitely have on NYX Stay Matte But Not Flat Liquid Foundation, Cover FX Contour Kit, Illamasqua Tweak Blusher, and MAC #35 lashes}

Bottom line: As much as I love LA Girl and a bunch of their products I’ve tried, I’m not loving these. LA Girl Flat Finish Pigment Gloss is ok for the price (although I think these should be like $2.99) but I wouldn’t go crazy for these. Like at all.

Price and where to buy: $5 at lagirlusa.com.

    I thought it was just me. I only have one and that’s secret. It’s blah to me. Great for people on an extreme budget but nothing to write home about.

      You are not alone! LOL. Even on an extreme budget I wouldn’t recommend these. Sleek MakeUP Matte Me is around the same price and doesn’t have that intense stickiness.

      You’re welcome! I was expecting these to be amazing because I love so many other LA Girl products, but alas…lol.
