I’m a bit of a cleanser fanatic. Obviously we need them to remove things like dirt, oil, free radicals, pollution, makeup, etc. from our faces and you’re not really treating your skin if it’s not properly cleansed. I also keep several types of cleansers on rotation in my skincare routine because my skin does different things at different times and I treat it according to how it’s behaving. We’ll talk about my cleanser stash in a future post :)

Recently I was given Guerlain Orchidée Impériale Cleansing Foam for review consideration. I’m a huge fan of Guerlain fragrances (that Coquin Gourmand is DIVINE) and the Guerlain Terracotta Bronzing Powder in Ebony, so I was totally hyped to try some of the skincare.

Orchidée Impériale, an ongoing quest for beauty. In the beginning, a rare flower that foils time – the orchid – a wonder of longevity, an incredible source of discoveries for science. Guerlain has been the expert in orchids and skin longevity for over 12 years: three orchids selected from 30,000 and a new one – the Gold Orchid – to regenerate cell life. Orchidée Impériale exceptional complete care has evolved since its creation to always offer global age-defying action with cutting-edge performance.

I’ve been reading things here and there about cell regeneration over the years and how brands use certain ingredients to promote skin cell regeneration. The skin is constantly on a mission to repair itself—it’s strongest the younger we are and as we age the process tends to slow down. The idea behind using ingredients that promote cell regeneration is that they help kickstart “older” cells into the renewal process to reveal younger-looking skin. Sometimes you’ll see things like fruit or plant stem cells mentioned in reference to some anti-aging products.

There’s TONS more you can read and research about this topic that I clearly can’t get into in this quick review.

But anyway…

Official description:

Combining the performance of the Gold Orchid with an extremely gentle formula, Orchidée Impériale Cleansing Foam is the first essential step in the Orchidée Impériale Ritual to preserve the beauty and youthful appearance of skin.
With a pH level similar to that of the skin, and a feather-light texture, this foam cleanses and soothes whilst respecting the skin’s natural protective barrier, offering exceptional purifying and comfort to skin. The skin is perfectly clean, revitalised and free of impurities, and the complexion looks refreshed, radiant and clear.

Typically I’m not a fan of skincare products that are scented, but I actually really like the fragrance on this one. It’s described as a “floral scent with hints of orchid that blend with notes of rose, white musk and precious cedar wood.” This feels SO luxurious on the skin. It feels silky smooth without leaving residue on the skin. It’s a great cleanser for my oily skin in the colder months because it feels more hydrating than my warmer weather cleansers.

I absolutely LOVE this and would buy it again as a kind of “treat yo self” sort of thing. One thing to note though if you’re watching your beauty coins is that while cleansers are an integral part of your routine, you don’t have to spend a ton of money on a cleanser just because you think it has all these great ingredients in it. Because you wash off a cleanser, a lot of those fancy things get washed down the drain. Your coin is better spent on good moisturizers and treatment products if you’re on a beauty budget. But if the sky’s the limit for you, it’s suggested that you use the Guerlain Orchidee Imperiale Cleansing Foam in conjunction with the other products in the line.
