Why Sometimes It’s Good to Have Repetition in Your Wardrobe {Part 1}

Danielle asos wiggle dress in white 3dresses-1

You know, it’s good to try new things. I try new things all the time and try to keep an open mind. But recently I’ve come to the conclusion that sometimes it’s best to leave some things as is. If it ain’t broke, why try to fix it? I learn this anytime I work on a project. I KNOW what works best but I call myself trying something different out and then I fudge it up and wind up going back to what was tried and true…lol. Same goes for my wardrobe. I know full well that my style is casual and tomboy-y (and then glam and girly from the neck up…lol) but in the sake of wanting to try something new or getting inspiration from an outfit I see on my IG timeline or on Pinterest, I try to veer away from it only to come back to my core style. And there’s a lesson for all of us to learn about fashion in that especially as we get older.

Shoot, I ain’t old but I’m also not 19 and trying to copy a look I saw in some music video…lol.

So here’s the thing. I know a thing or two (or three or four…lol) about style and image and what looks good on the varying body types. But I also don’t go around policing what women chose to put on their bodies. That ain’t none of my business and my biggest mantra in life is it’s too short and do what makes you happy. I do find that what makes most people happy is to look their best and typically that’s done through dressing for your body type…lol. I’m 5’9″, curvy, busty, have long legs, thick thighs, and I only have a bottom butt (this is a term I coined amongst my friends but basically the top part of my booty doesn’t curve like the bottom part does or perhaps you can say my top butt is pending…lol). I’m also in between sizes and still looking to lose a few more pounds (see how I lost weight here) but I’ve found that what looks best on me is clothing that is more form-fitting that shows my shape as opposed to things that are too oversized which can make me look bigger than I am. I don’t ALWAYS wear form-fitting clothes because um, nah—but I have started buying my t-shirts and other tops in a smaller size because it definitely makes a difference in how they look on me.

Now like I said, my style is casual but I do love to have cute and easy dresses on hand for when I have meetings and other appointments. I bought an ASOS wiggle dress last year and absolutely LOVED the way it fit me—it was even good to my bottom butt which some dresses aren’t in that they make my top butt look longer and even flatter than it is…lol.

So you know what I did—I bought MORE of the ASOS wiggle dress in different sizes and patterns because I know it works for me and why go through the drama of trying a gazillion other things when I can save myself time and energy by going for the tried and true. Plus I also have a problem where I get obsessed with something and want more of it and I wear it OWT…lol.

So I shot my three ASOS wiggle dresses and was going to put them all in one post but figured let me spread it out…lol.

Today’s dress is an off-white looser fitting dress I love for summer. I can make it more causal by pairing it with some gladiator flats or dress it up with heels. This has a little more material at the top than I probably need so I’m more than likely going to take it to get altered.

Since following your blog I’ve learned that I don’t need every trendy piece of clothing. I now opt for pieces that will work in multiple ways. I’d had to say my favorite piece of clothing right now are my fitted Camo pants. I love that I can rock them every season by just switching up the shoes and tops.

      Hey girl hey!

Woo hoo! Yup—you don’t. Most of us wear 20% of our closet 80% of the time anyway…lol. Plus as much as I love clothes, I also love having space so I need to make sure that what I buy is loved so much I wear it all the time :)

      Camo pants for the win!

I am guilty of doing this all the time and now I don’t feel so bad, Lol. If I find something that works I definitely try to get it in multiple colors and prints. Those shoes are gorgeous and I really like the dress too! LOL at bottom butt!

      Hey Kateria!

      Thanks!

Nope. Don’t feel bad at all. You can mix things up through accessories if you feel like you wear the same things all the time.

I dress like you also. Whenever I see girls on IG with painted on clothes and the motorboat(able) boobs on display, I wish for a second there that I could dress like that till I try dressing like that and I discover(as if it hasn’t happened before) that hey, this isnt me. I love comfort to a fault. I’m don’t do sloppy but you won’t see me decked up and in heels all week long either. Showing excess boob and ass or being overly dressed isn’t my forte and I’ve made my peace with that fact. I’m 30 and stuck in my dress ways.

The wiggle dresses I got run pretty true to size but with ASOS I get two sizes to try to see which one works better for me. They offer free shipping AND free returns so it’s better to do that and see what works best on you :)

Good afternoon Danielle! I do hope you are well! I live in Raleigh, NC. I found your blog by way of doing a google search on the Asos wiggle dress I just purchased. I was looking for reviews to tell me if the dress runs small. I am in between sizes (18/20). This dress KEPT selling out! A size 18 became available today so I just went ahead and bought it. fingers crossed it fits. It looks like the band around the waist falls a little more under the breast area. Can you tell me if it runs true to size or should I have sized up?

Thanks so much for your input!

      Hey Jamila!

That’s awesome you were able to snag one! With ASOS I always just buy two sizes (when I can) since they have such a hassle-free return policy. My wiggle dress seemed to run true to size though. Hope yours works out—keep me posted :)
