50 Shades of Lipstick 2: A Boat Load of Purple Lippies for Your Perusal

purple lipstick on dark skin the style and beauty doctor

So back in like June I had this idea of gathering up all my lipsticks and taking a pic of me wearing each one. That was until I realized just how many lipsticks I own. From what I’ve bought over the years, what’s been sent here for the blog, and what I have in my makeup artist kit, I have waaaaaaaay too many to do that. So then I settled on 50 and even trying to decide which colors got to make that list was a lot of work, too…lol. You can see the first 50 Shades of Lipstick Series here.

Then I decide why stop at 50 and decided to do it again!

I enlisted the professional services of my girl Nas of Nasilele Photography and decided to call it 50 Shades of Lipstick but what I really should subtitle it is 50 Hours of Torture…lol. The first set was one helluva process! From picking out the lipsticks that I would use, to writing them all down in a notebook to keep track, to putting FIFTY SHADES OF LIPSTICK ON MY LIPS BACK TO BACK for over a few hours with my lips burning and screaming for help and being stained a melange of the 50 shades for like a day after the shoot—and let’s not even count the time it took for me to pick out which shots I wanted to include as my best shots nor how long it must have taken Nas to go through them and edit them. YIKES! And then came the part of me having to label the files and make sure I didn’t get any shades confused. *PHEW*

But I did it because I know it would help a lot of you deciding on lipstick shades to see it on. I do tons of lipstick reviews and don’t often show the colors on my face because well, trying on lipsticks back to back HURTS…lol. Shoot, even the swatches on my arms can hurt if I get a series of shades in and need to wipe off the previous set of colors. This blogging stuff isn’t as easy and glamorous as it might look, ya know…lol. But that’s where my love of all things beauty and fashion and of course socializing and helping others comes in because I’d do it again—after I get a plastic surgeon to help me put my lips back on after I’m done…lol.

The second time around I tried to make things easier on myself by using a chalkboard to notate which shades were which, but looking at it now, I kinda look like a made-up mugshot…lol. Ah well—it SO made the post work so much easier of labeling the pics.

I tried to stay within a few family colors such as nude, pinks, reds, plums, and wines so that even if a particular brand’s shade wasn’t used, at least you’ll have an idea of what a certain shade would look like. I really hope you guys find this helpful and that if you enjoy this post you’ll share the link on Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram and such but please tag me and link the blog ;)

I’m releasing these in sets so stay tuned for more!

So next up…PURPLES! When I asked you guys which colors you wanted to see in this latest installment, so many of you mentioned purples. I don’t often reach for my purple stash, but after looking at some of these pics, I’m like—um, PUH-POOOOL! lol. Not only do I hope this series helps you, it also helps me to shop my stash more often. I can be guilty of wearing whatever lipstick happens to be in my bag all the time until I get hooked on something else…lol.

Let me know if you see any new faves from this list :)

bite-beauty-matte-creme-lip-crayon-in-violet-on-dark-skin-

Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Crayon in Violet, a bold pinky violet (LOVE how creamy this formula feels but it’s so creamy that the pencil can easily get mushed)

blackheart-lavendar-lipstick-on-dark-skin

Blackheart Lipstick in Lavender, a light lilac-y purple (I bought this randomly at Hot Topic—not a huge fan of the color on me nor the fact that the top doesn’t always stay on the lipstick, but they were 2 for $8 and if you’ve been looking for a true lilac lipstick, the color is pretty)

blackheart-wire-lipstick-on-dark-skin

Blackheart Lipstick in Wire, a deep matte eggplant color

iman-taboo-lipstick-on-dark-skin

Iman Cosmetics Luxury Moisturizing Lipstick in Taboo, a cream with shine eggplant

inglot-99-purple-lipstick-on-dark-skin-

Inglot Lipstick in #99, an almost neon purple (cream with shine finish)

Lancome Rouge in Love #381, a creamy magenta with slight magenta shimmer

mac-hautecore-lipstick-on-dark-skin

MAC Hautecore Lipstick, a matte black (it’s discontinued but I thought a matte black lipstick would be good to throw in even though I look horrible in it…lol)

mac-heroine-lipstick-on-dark-skin

MAC Heroine Lipstick, a creamy matte magenta (I swear this color looks different on everyone…lol. Also note that I’m not sure which release of Heroine this is but it’s definitely before the shade became permanent)

mac-punk-couture-lipstick-on-dark-skin

MAC Punk Couture Lipstick, (this seemed to have walked since I took these pics but from what I can remember Punk Couture was a blackened eggplant shade)

mac-seductive-intent-lipstick-on-dark-skin

MAC Seductive Intent, a pinky deepened magenta

maybelline-colorsensational-vivids-brazen-berry-on-dark-skin

Makeup info:

The makeup I have on was done by Shon Michaux and we were TOO busy cracking up for me to remember to ask what she used—though I do remember Jouer foundation and concealer and Urban Decay Naked 1 eyeshadow palette.
