I bought the Juvia’s Place Nubian Palette a while ago after hearing so many people gushing over it. And then because I tend to get in a lot of product (stuff I buy, stuff I get sent), I totally forgot I had it, but that’s what the whole #SwatchesInSeptember theme this month was about! Me clearing out a lot of the products I had in my pending pile.

I was excited to buy this palette since Juvia’s Place is a Black-owned brand and appears to be a growing company. And yep, I’ve since seen some videos where makeup enthusiasts bashed the brand for poor customer service and other issues. I personally had no issue during the buying process and my palette arrived pretty quickly after I bought it and it was in great condition. I have also seen some posts from the brand stating that they are in the process of hiring more staff to better accommodate customer service and the ordering process. I also know the sad reality and unfair obstacles that can hinder some Black owned-business and that sometimes *some* people are quicker to bash a Black-owned business (I said SOME—I’m not bashing the bashers—valid customer service complaints are valid customer service complaints).

But alas, I have the palette. It’s $35 (on sale now as of the time of me drafting this post for $23.50) and if you love warmer neutrals, you’d likely enjoy this palette. Pigmentation is good and the shade selection will work on just about every skin tone for both day and night looks. The colors in the palette are VERY, VERY pretty—it’s like you open it and smile because everything looks like a warm sunset or how tree leaves look in the middle of fall.

I tested these without a primer like I normally do with eyeshadows. They performed pretty well—some shades wore better than others (the mattes didn’t last as long without a primer as the shimmery shades did), but as I always say, use a primer when you use shadows if you want to ensure all-day wear without creasing or fading.

I liked the sturdy palette packaging. Some palettes have some weaaaak cardboard but this seems about that life and uses magnets to keep it closed. The shadows do have a “factory” sort of smell to them like I mentioned some of the Morphe palettes have but thankfully once it’s on your eyes the smell doesn’t continue to linger. I definitely notice it when I’m handling the palette though—not a deal breaker for me but something I definitely noticed.

Bottom line: Overall, Juvia’s Place Nubian Palette is a good palette with gorgeous colors and good performance. If your stash already has its fare share of warm neutrals in it, you likely won’t *need* this palette (for instance, I have the NYX Warm Neutrals palette and there are some shade similarities and overlaps between the two), but a makeup junkie will find any reason to add more makeup to her stash…lol. I bought this because I wanted to support the brand and was curious about it.

Whether or not you get this is going to rely heavily on what you already have in your stash. It’s nice—not particularly something we haven’t seen before, but I do think it’s important that we consider more Black-owned brands in our beauty-buying.

Price and where to buy: $35 (on sale now as of the time of me drafting this post for $23.50) at juviasplace.com.

This palette is gorgeous! I’ve been eyeing a couple Juvia’s Place palettes including this one and the Masquerade one. I don’t really need either of them but they’re so pretty and pigmented that I want them lol. I may pass on this one since I have enough warm neutrals but the Masquerade palette will probably end up in my collection soon lol

Haha! I want the Masquerade one, too. I was getting ready to buy it but it’s out of stock currently.

I purchased 2 palettes and had a great experience! You are correct in saying that many Black owned businesses get bashed quicker.
    Great review!
